“06880 On The Go”: Baron’s South

Like many Westporters, Andrew Brennan spent years in Westport without setting foot on Baron’s South.

Or even thinking about it.

But the other day — just before leaving for his junior year at Hamilton College — our “06880” intern headed to the 22-acre town park, between Compo Road South and Imperial Avenue.

He recorded himself walking the trails, climbing the hills, and discovering this hidden gem, a few yards from downtown.

“06880 On The Go”: Lifeguard Edition

Like everyone else in town, “06880” loves the beach.

The other day Andrew Brennan — our summer intern — headed to Compo. He spent some time chatting with the lifeguards (during their breaks, of course), to learn more about their jobs.

What do they like? What don’t they like? What do they do, besides sit in a chair, survey the Sound and get tan?

“06880 On The Go”: Downtown Parking

“06880 On The Go” — the man-and-woman-in-the-street video series pioneered by spring intern Colin Morgeson — is back.

Andrew Brennan takes over this summer. A rising junior and classical studies major at Hamilton College, he writes for the campus newspaper The Spectator, and the campus magazine The Continental. The Pierrepont School graduate also plays on Hamilton’s ultimate frisbee team.

The other day, he headed downtown to gather some thoughts on Westport’s parking dilemma. Here’s what he found:

Time To Eat Crow

Well, it looks like Police Chief Foti Koskinas and I are wrong.

If you looked at this morning’s “06880 On the Go” video, you saw intern Colin Morgeson asking random folks random questions about Westport.

One of them was about the towns that border ours. “Norwalk, Fairfield, Weston, Wilton,” they asserted. Colin nodded, and congratulated them.

At the Farmers’ Market, he happened upon our top cop. Foti added “Easton.”

I was standing nearby. I was surprised, but thought about it. Of course: that stretch of Easton Road just past Catamount led into the corner of Easton where Helen Keller once lived.

So when my turn came, I confidently added “Easton.”

Nope!

As Evan Stein clearly points out, that stretch of Route 136 actually runs through Weston.

Before posting, I did a quick map search. Too quick, as it turns out.

Colin was right.

I was wrong.

Mea culpa.

And yeah, you can say it: #fakenews.

“06880 On The Go”: Westport Trivia

Colin Morgeson completed his “06880” internship in fine style this week.

The Staples High School senior — well, he graduated Tuesday — scoured Westport for contestants to play a local trivia game.

What he found may surprise you. It surprised him, for sure.

There are 2 twists at the end. One involves the answer to a question.

The other … well, click below.

“06880 On The Go”: Memorial Day Parade

“06880” intern Colin Morgeson headed downtown yesterday, for the Memorial Day parade.

Why do people go? he wondered. And what keeps them coming back?

Colin intercut those interviews with parade scenes, and the stirring conclusion to Rabbi Greg Wall’s invocation.

“06880 On The Go”: The Worst Intersections In Westport

“06880” intern Colin Morgeson returns with the 2nd installment of “06880 On The Go.”

Today, the Staples High School senior offers an in-depth look at the worst intersections in Westport.

Colin crowd sources the data, then comes up with the winner. A dubious honor, indeed.

“06880 On The Go”: Long Lots School

Colin Morgeson is spending his Staples High School senior internship with “06880.”

The high honors soon-to-be-graduate is creating a video project: “06880 On the Go.”

For the next 3 weeks he’ll roam around Westport with a video camera, asking readers (and non-readers) questions about trending topics and town events.

Today he explores Long Lots (the elementary school he attended, back in the day). What’s up with the renovation? What do the principal, and others, think?
