“06880” Podcast: David Lloyd

David Lloyd is one of ESPN’s longest-running anchors. He’s been with the network for 27 years. Right now, he’s the 7 a.m. host of Sports Center.

Before ESPN, David was a sportscaster in Macon, Georgia; Charleston, South Carolina; Sacramento, and San Diego.

He’s a native Westporter, and a graduate of Staples High School and Colgate University.

The other day, David hustled down to the Westport Library from Bristol, and reversed roles: He was the interviewee, not the interviewer.

We chatted about the sports landscape when he was a young athlete here; his route to ESPN; memorable moments from his career, and what it’s like working for the “worldwide leader in sports.”

But we also talked about The Susan Fund. For 40 years, the non-profit organization that provides scholarships for students with cancer has honored the legacy of his late sister. That work is as meaningful as anything David does.

“06880” Podcast: Jack Mitchell

Jack Mitchell — chairman emeritus of Mitchells Stores — was the second generation to run the company.

With his brother Bill, he helped make a literal mom-and-pop shop — Ed Mitchell’s — into a group of nationally recognized men’s and women’s specialty stores, in Connecticut, New York and on the West Coast.

In 2003, Jack launched a second career as a speaker and author. His “hugging” books — “Hug Your Customers” and “Hug Your People” — are filled with personal stories, and consistently top the business bestseller lists.

Jack has given hundreds of speeches, to audiences including Merrill Lynch, Nike, Starbucks and Harvard University.

The other day, Jack stopped by the Westport Library for a chat. He looked back on 85 years: his youth here in town, the early years and growth of Mitchells, and everything in between.

“06880” Podcast: Samantha Yanks

Samantha Yanks is editor-in-chief of Westport Magazine. Before moving here, she held the same posts at Hamptons and Gotham Magazines. Among her many other accomplishments, she was an editor at O: The Oprah Magazine, and Vogue.

How is Westport different from the Hamptons? How is Westport Magazine different from her previous gigs? What got her to town? What’s keeping her in Westport? What has she learned, about this place and us?

Those are some of the topics we talked about the other day, on the Westport Library stage. Click below for our full, wide-ranging conversation:

“06880” Podcast: Lisa Wexler

Longtime Westporter Lisa Wexler wears 2 hats.

Every weekday mornings since 2006, she hosts a very popular talk radio show on WICC. She’s won 5 Connecticut Press Awards, and has interviewed everyone who is anyone in the state. Plus, nearly everyone else too.

In the afternoons, she is the Westport and Weston probate judge. She’s been elected 4 times, as both a Democrat and Republican.  She graduated from Johns Hopkins University with honors, and the New York University School of Law. After practicing on Wall Street, she hung out her shingle here. She’s served on Westport’s Planning & Zoning Commission, and Zoning Board of Appeals.

The other day — moving between her 2 jobs — Lisa sat down on the Westport Library stage for the “06880” podcast.

“06880” Podcast: Alisyn Camerota

Alisyn Camerota is a journalist, author and CNN correspondent.

She has anchored the morning show “New Day,” co-hosted the afternoon edition of “CNN Newsroom,” and hosted “CNN Tonight.” Before CNN, she worked at Fox News.

She has won 2 Emmys, and the prestigious Edward R. Murrow Award. Her first novel, “Amanda Wakes Up,” was chosen by NPR a one of the best books of the year.

Alisyn is — equally notably — a Westport resident, and very active in our community.

The other day she and I sat on the Westport Library stage, for “06880: The Podcast.” We chatted about her career, politics, her new memoir “Combat Love,” and Westport.

“06880” Podcast: Markus Marty

Markus Marty grew up in Switzerland. From age 4 on, he biked everywhere. He spent 15 years in New York, and rode somewhere every day of the year.

After moving to Westport in 2020, he was stunned to find biking here more difficult than New York.

The other day, Markus and I chatted onstage at the Westport Library. We talked about Bike Westport — the non-profit he helped found to make bicycling (and walking) better and safer all over town.

We discussed other quality of life issues too. I learned a lot, about both transportation and Markus.

“06880” Podcast: State Senator Ceci Maher

State Senator Ceci Maher represents the 26th District, which includes Westport, Weston and other towns up to Ridgefield.

A licensed social worker, she worked before politics with children and youth in a psychiatric hospital, then moved on to non-profits, including Person-to-Person. She also led Sandy Hook Promise, promoting gun violence prevention programs.

She recently visited the Westport Library, for an “06880” podcast. We talked about her route to Hartford, how she represents Westport, what she’s worked on and is challenged by, and (of course) her favorite spots and activities n town.

“06880” Podcast: Dave Briggs

In a town filled with interesting people, Dave Briggs still stands out.

He’s a longtime national broadcaster with CNN, NBC Sports, Fox News and Turner Sports. He still does media work, but has branched out into business – with Cann Social Tonic, a drink micro-dosed with THC and CBD. He’s fully immersed in town activities, as (among other things) a Westport Library board member and Fashionably Westport MC.

Our wide-ranging chat last week at the Library ranged from national politics and the media to kids (he has 3), his varied career, and — notably — his passion for all things Westport.

Click below to watch. The half hour will fly by.

“06880” Podcast: Andrea Moore

Andrea Moore — Westport’s 2nd selectwoman — is a proud townie.

She grew up here (and graduated from Staples High School). She moved back. She got involved in local politics (after corporate gigs).

And she loves it.

The other day, we sat down on the Westport Library’s Verso Studios stage. Our lively discussion ranged far and wide: What did she love about being a kid? What do her kids think about Westport? What are her go-to places? And what the heck does a 2nd selectwoman actually do?

Click below for our intriguing chat.

“06880” Podcast: Teri Fabi

Teri Fabi spent 30 years in the Brooklyn District Attorney’s office. Her focus was on incarcerated women, and the impact on their children.

She served as deputy chief of the domestic violence bureau, and chief of the crime prevention division. She was also very active in the Women’s Community Justice Project.

Three years ago, Teri moved to Westport. Though quite a change, she quickly got involved her new community. Among her volunteer efforts: She’s on the town’s Civilian Review Panel.

The other day at the Westport Library, Teri offered insights into her work with the Brooklyn DA, her move here, and how it all fits together.
