“06880” Podcast: Alisyn Camerota

Alisyn Camerota is a journalist, author and CNN correspondent.

She has anchored the morning show “New Day,” co-hosted the afternoon edition of “CNN Newsroom,” and hosted “CNN Tonight.” Before CNN, she worked at Fox News.

She has won 2 Emmys, and the prestigious Edward R. Murrow Award. Her first novel, “Amanda Wakes Up,” was chosen by NPR a one of the best books of the year.

Alisyn is — equally notably — a Westport resident, and very active in our community.

The other day she and I sat on the Westport Library stage, for “06880: The Podcast.” We chatted about her career, politics, her new memoir “Combat Love,” and Westport.

    Dan and Alisyn,
Thank you both for a most memorable discussion on the 06880 Podcast today.
The dynamics between Fox News and CNN, along with your personal experiences, add depth to your perspective on broadcast journalism. I grew up in a conservative household of Fox News devotees and politics. Growing up in three generations in the oil industry; news; especially International news, was a vital element in our culture.
In today’s political environment I particularly enjoy the CNN perspective to Inform, Engage and Empower the World. I had the opportunity to meet with a colleague of Alisyn’s; CNN newscaster Kaitlin Collins, giving a talk; “THIS JUST IN: MEDIATING PRIMETIME NEWS” at a Westport Y’s Men gathering at the Quick Center for the Arts 🎭.
In today’s politically polarizing atmosphere, especially with our nation at a crossroads election, it is more important than ever to have the type broadcast journalism that you and your colleagues so obviously convey. Thank you!
Oh, I completely agree with your selection of Danny’s Gabriel Restaurant as being another example of what is a Westport gemstone!

CNN. The Democrats campaign news channel.

One of the worst rated news outlets. Liberal news at its best!!

I think it’s tied with MSNBC as the worst.

    • Just watch The Dukes of Hazzard. All the news you need is right there!

hi Jeff. Does being held accountable for nearly 1 billion for defamation make Fox News your choice ?

  3. Thank you, Dan for this wonderful interview with Alisyn. I know Alisyn and have worked with her on my podcast and Y’s Men events. She is a true professional and I am proud to have her as a friend.

Both of you are true Westport treasures, keep up the good work!

  4. Dermot Meuchner

CNN is underwritten by the CIA. what a country.

  5. A great interview! Thank you both!

To balance the aspersions cast on CNN and MSNBC by Jeff and Dermot I would like to point out-

Fact- Fox News settled for allowing lies about Dominion VotingSystems to air- 787 million dollars. This is what is called an admission of guilt!

Fact- Fox lawsuit for 1.6 billion dollars by Smartmatic for allowing lies about their voting machines is in talks on settlement. Stay tuned!!

Fact- over 60 lawsuits by Trump/ GOP over the 2020 election were lost or thrown out- mostly in red states overseen by Republican AGs and Republican election officials. Fact- The last election was not stolen. Claims otherwise are lies or unproven conspiracy theories.

Lies are lies. Facts are facts. Difference of opinions, discussion based of facts and voting in elections are the basis of our democracy!

Alternate facts are lies that are repeated often and not called out for being lies.

Dermot- please let me know where are facts of CNN being underwritten by the CIA. Otherwise your statement is just an unfounded Conspiracy Theory??

Jeff- please give me facts about what CNN or MSNBC have said that is untrue. Areas of discussion might include- the criminal indictments and trials of Mr Trump, abortion laws denied to 10 year olds, rape victims or to save the life of a endangered mother, IVF being stopped, 2020 election being stolen, multiple mass shootings and the need for sane gun legislation, crime statistics that are improving, improved health coverage for more Americans , improving economy that is leading the world, improving unemployment statistics at a long time low, control of drug pricing so Americans pay what the rest of the world pays, the disgrace of the NRA and Wayne LaPierre, etc etc.

Just my observations of some facts backed by statistics, common sense and filmed documentation of events that looked like an insurrection versus the conspiracy theories with no facts- just repeated lies and conspiracy theories.

I think I will watch Dan interview Alison again!!

  6. Hooray for another forthright, incisive interview, Dan and Alysin. Alysin is a Westport treasure. Thank you for telling it like it is!
