In This Driver’s Defense, Perhaps The Line At Bank Of America’s Drive-Thru Was Really, Really Long

Pulling Into An Actual Parking Spot Is So Overrated

For most Westporters, yesterday evening was a chance to relax just a little bit longer, after a wonderful Independence Day weekend.

One driver though was apparently so stressed, he or she could not be bothered to use a parking space — even though most were empty, in the Saugatuck Craft Butchery/Garelick & Herbs parking lot.

Yes, this is an actual parking job. No, there was no one in the car.

Did the driver have an immediate need for ice cream at Saugatuck Sweets? A drink at the Whelk?

Most times, these “entitled parking” photos evoke at least one defender, who points out a legalistic or otherwise morally suspect reason the driver may have parked as he or she did.

No one can dream up an excuse for this one.

Then, again, the sign hanging on the left says “No Parking Fire Lane.” It doesn’t specifically mention the sidewalk.

Today’s Very Entitled Parker Is A Double Loser

Regular readers know “06880” has no tolerance for people who hog handicapped spaces.

But there are no words to describe what Amy Scarella saw today, at the Merritt Parkway Exit 42 commuter lot:

Exit 42 parking lot

That does not appear to be a handicapped permit dangling from the rear-view mirror — it looks like one of those pine-scent things.

But it would take a pretty powerful one to erase the stink from this driver.

Note to Police: Hopefully the car is still there. If so, that would be 2 tickets for this Very Special Driver.

And Why Shouldn’t I Park Here? I Need Milk And Eggs!

In the nicest weather, Trader Joe’s is crowded. And the parking lot is a mess.

Today is not the nicest weather. We’re in the midst of our daily snowstorm, so naturally everyone headed out for milk and eggs. The parking lot was a real mess.

Alert “06880” reader Pam Ehrenburg has seen plenty of crowds at Trader Joe’s. She calls today’s “the busiest ever.”

Pam has also seen plenty of entitled parking in her years in Westport. But this sight left her, she says, “in awe.”

“Parker smiled,” she reports. “But didn’t move.”

Yes, This Is A Parking Lot. No, That Is Not A Parking Space

Note to the driver of the Cadillac who stopped her car right here yesterday morning:

You can tell which are the parking spots. They have lines.

And when someone stops and tells you you’ve parked rudely and ridiculously — as also happened this morning — you should not walk right past her, as if she does not exist.

Although, to be fair, there is no sign there explicitly stating  “No Parking.”

Let’s hope this is an isolated instance, and not the start of a new trend.
