“06880” Podcast: Dave Briggs

In a community filled with interesting people, Dave Briggs may top the list.

He’s covered the Olympics, NHL and NASCAR for NBC Sports, and March Madness for Yahoo. He was a co-host on CNN, and “Fox & Friends Weekend” (with fellow Westporter Alisyn Camerota). Now he and Alisyn host a great podcaster with top newsmakers, called Sanity.

Dave keeps me on my toes like nobody else. When he joined me on the Westport Library stage the other day for an “06880” podcast, I had no idea where our conversation would go.

But I knew it would go unexpected places. Dave is unafraid to share his opinions, about any and everything.

“06880” Podcast: Marc Hartog

Marc Hartog is deputy director of Westport Emergency Medical Services.

They’re one of our town’s most important — and often unrecognized — organizations.

You hope you never meet them. But when you do, they are there for you — 24/7/365.

The other day, when Marc joined me on our “06880” podcast, I learned some of what they do — and how, and why.

Much of it was eye-opening. All of it is fascinating.

“06880” Podcast: Dan Woog

More than 100 times, I’ve sat on the left side of the Westport Library stage, and interviewed Westporters.

Politicians, entrepreneurs, entertainers, athletes — I’ve chatted with all of them.

The other day, the tables were turned. Literally.

I moved to the right side. I became the interviewee.

My place as interviewer was taken by Steve Parrish. He asked me questions: about “06880,” Westport, my life and more.

He did a great job. He made me think.

I hope my answers were at least half as interesting as my 100-plus guests’ have been.

You be the judge. Click here or below, for a different kind of “06880” podcast.

“06880” Podcast: Candice Holley

Candice Holley is the director of human relations for the town of Westport. She oversees 17 departments, and hundreds of employees.

She brings over 20 years’ experience — in Fortune 500 companies, national non-profits and start-ups — to the job.

But Candice is much more than an HR pro. A former Division I basketball player and assistant coach (who now coaches 4th graders in the Westport PAL program), she is also a professional voice talent. You’ve heard her on national commercial spots.

That’s a lot to talk about in half an hour. But we did it recently, on the Westport Library stage. Click below, to learn more about this very intriguing town treasure.

“06880” Podcast: Eric Freeman

Eric Freeman is a partner in a real estate investment firm. He and his wife are raising young sons. A former viola player, he sits on the board of the Norwalk Symphony Orchestra.

But his most important role may be as president of the board of A Better Chance of Westport.

That’s the organization that, for over 20 years, has provided educational opportunities — and much more — to young men of color, from communities less advantaged than Westport. It’s one of our town’s crown (and underpublicized) jewels.

A few days before ABC’s big fundraiser, the Dream Event — it’s Saturday, April 26 — Eric and I chatted for the “06880” podcast. Click below to learn more.

“06880” Podcast: Andrew Wilk

Andrew Wilk won 5 Emmys, as an executive producer and director of network television. He is also a stage director, writer, and symphony orchestra conductor.

He may be best known for his work with “Live From Lincoln Center,” producing programs with artists like Itzhak Perlman, Yo-Yo Ma, Joshua Bell and Renée Fleming, and many more.

Other TV specials include “Rodgers & Hammerstein’s ‘Carousel'” (including Westporter Kelli O’Hara) and “Falsettos.” He has worked with Josh Groban, Billy Porter and many others, and was executive producer of Stephen Sondheim’s “Sweeney Todd.”

Plus, Andrew has an entire second career as a music conductor.

The other day, we chatted on another important stage: the Westport Library’s Trefz Forum. Click below for our wide-ranging conversation, on the arts (in the world, and Westport), and much more.

Podcast: Weston 1st Selectwoman Sam Nestor

Today, “06880: The Podcast” becomes “06883.”

Sam Nestor — Weston’s 1st selectwoman — made the long drive south, to the Westport Library’s Verso Studios stage, to talk all about her town.

From sidewalks to schools, and her career path to the future, everyone in Weston and far beyond will enjoy this inside look into our neighbor to the north.

“06880” Podcast: Nancy Diamond

Nancy Diamond’s first career was in finance.

Now she co-chairs the Westport Arts Advisory Committee. She also manages and produces theater and dance.

In Westport Nancy co-founded the very popular lunchtime theater series Play With Your Food, and was the founder and producer of the short film festival Short Cuts.

The other day, we chatted at the Westport Library. Our “06880” podcast ranged from her work in finance to the arts; the changes she’s seen in the Westport arts scene over 30 years, whether this really still is an “arts community,” and many related topics..

Click below, for an inside look into art, music, dance, and much more.

“06880” Podcast: Matt Storch

For over 30 years, Matt Storch has been one of this area’s best known, and most respected, chefs and restaurant owners.

Match in SoNo recently celebrated its 25th anniversary. Match Burger Lobster is a Westport favorite for its classic New England menu, while Saugatuck Provisions next door — his newest project — is a whole-animal butcher shop and market.

Matt is also involved in the Copps Island Oyster Shacks, is a “Chopped” champion, and appeared on “Beat Bobby Flay.”

The other day he ducked out of the kitchen, for a chat on the “06880” podcast. Click below for our delicious conversation.

“06880” Podcast: Melissa Kane

Melissa Kane is board chair of Connecticut Against Gun Violence.

It’s an important job — but typical of her long public service.

She’s co-chaired the Downtown Plan Implementation Committe. Beford that, she was a Representative Town Meeting member, and Westport’s 3rd selectwoman.

The other day, we chatted at the Westport Library for an “06880” podcast. Click below to hear more about Melissa’s work with CAGV, and her other efforts in Westport.
