The AED is gone from its box at Winslow Park. Traditionally, it’s removed for the winter, because the weather is too cold. (Photo/Mark Mathias)

Hmmm…maybe different units though when I lived in Vail a couple of years ago those units were left in the box all winter where night temps are often single digits or below; and, the last snow is in June with the first frost around Labor Day.
Hello Everyone,
Norwalk Hospital EMS oversees several community-deployed AEDs at locations throughout Norwalk, Westport, Weston, Wilton and New Canaan of which this is one. The AED devices, received through a generous donation several years ago, are designed to operate between 32 and 122 degrees Fahrenheit. In practice, we have found that they become inoperable below approximately 40 degrees Fahrenheit, so we remove and store the outdoor devices for the winter season.
Members of the public may download the free Pulsepoint app from Google/Apple store. It will display our public AEDs (and any others that are entered) with location and status. Members of the public may also report problems with AEDs directly through the app. When we remove an AED device for the season, we make it invisible on the app until it is redeployed in the Spring. Deployed device will all be visible. Please remember to first call 911 in any emergency.
Anyone with questions or concerns about our publicly deployed AED project may contact us at 203 852 3487, email tyler.smith@nuvancehealth.org or visit our website at

Respectfully,
Aaron Katz
EMS Director
