Lockdown At Staples; “Shelter In Place” At Bedford

Westport superintendent of schools Thomas Scarice says:

“This morning, a call was made to the Westport Police Department that warranted a lockdown at Staples High School.

“As a precaution, Bedford Middle School was placed in a ‘shelter in place.; The WPD is on scene at this moment investigating and the building is secure.

“When a school is in a lockdown or ‘shelter in place,’ no visitors are allowed on campus. All district schools have implemented safety procedures until this matter is resolved.”

  1. Aren’t we all just so tired of this? Remember to VOTE on November 8th.

  2. We had two of these in Howard County Maryland and I read the authorities think the calls were from outside the country.

I don’t understand the “VOTE” comment. We have Democratic leadership at both he Federal and State level – are we blaming them? Or is this some veiled MAGA thing? The worst school shooting in CT’s history was in 2012 – Obama / Malloy.

This has nothing to do with politics.

I won’t speak for Fred but I for one want to vote for people up and down the ballot that support gun control. Firearm violence is the #1 cause of children in the US. Surpassing car crashes. We make kids jump through many hoops, rightfully so , to get their license and use it broadly. We don’t do the same for guns. We
Must vote for those who believe in gun control. (And reproductive and bodily rights !)

      • Agree wholeheartedly, but please call it GUN SAFETY.

      • Actually I believe Fentanyl is killing way more kids than guns. Not even close. Why not vote for people who will decure our border and actually lock people up who have illegal guns!

  4. While this is a new phenomenon, it seems an update of calling in with information that a bomb was planted. I remember around 1960, crossing through Staples on my walk from Burr Farms School to our house on High Point Road, Staples was in the midst of a “bomb scare.” When I was in college during the Vietnam era at Northeastern University, bomb scares became so frequent the school stopped announcing them. Unfortunately there are sick individuals who find phoning in such threats amusing.
