Taking The New Year’s Plunge

Okay, so the temperature today reached the mid-50s.

Still, it was not exactly a beach day.

C-c-c-c-c-cold water did not stop 11 hardy area residents, from high school through middle age.

Urged on by 50 relatively warm (and very dry) spectators, the group raced into the water, for a brief New Year’s Day dip.

Intrepid Polar Plungers

The 3rd annual Popkin Polar Plunge was a fundraiser for the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation.

Organizer David Popkin says over $4,000 was raised to help find a cure for the autoimmune disease that affects 1.5 million Americans.

Of course, even if you weren’t one of the b-b-b-b-brave plungers, you can still help. Click here to contribute.

  1. There is a New Yorker cartoon from about 20 years ago that shows a middle-aged man dressed in a “brief” swimsuit arriving at a beach to be confronted with a posted sign that reads “Speedo Limit 21 Years”. We should maybe add that to the already long list of prohibitions on the back of the guard chairs. Of course, the chairs are now in hibernation for the winter.

  2. What’s more frightening if you look closer the suit has a “black tie” theme. Not the Westport I grew up in. Please.
