“06880” Throws A Blog Party

The weather for the 3rd annual “06880” party yesterday was perfect. The crowd of over 100 was diverse: old and young, Wall Streeters and work-from-homers, 4th-generation Westporters and others who are still unpacking.

Bart Shuldman got up at 4:30 a.m. in Las Vegas to make it back to Westport on time. Mary Lynn Halland spent nearly 3 hours driving from Manhattan, where she lives — it was one of those days — and she’s not even a Westporter.

Strangers made new friends. Folks on both sides of the political aisle laughed together. Everyone marveled at the sunset.

It was just another “06880” day at the beach.

Nicole Klein and her son Carter have lived in Westport just over a year, but this is their 2nd "06880" party. Yours truly is delighted they're here.

If you missed this year’s party — too bad!

We’ll see you next year, right?

(Hat tip to Mary Hoffman and Jennifer Hershey for their great organizational skills!)

If you were left wondering why no P&Z commissioners showed up, it’s because we were all at Town Hall from 7:00 – 11:30 last night. Sorry to miss the 06880 party [again], I would have prefered to spend the evening with you on the beach!

    • We missed you (though Cathy did a quick drive-by before your meeting!)

    • Bobbie Herman

I would have been at the party, too, but I was at Town Hall getting the Unitarian Church lift approved! Thanks, Jack, and the rest of the P&Z! I will definitely be at next year’s party. I went last year and had a wonderful time!

  2. It was a perfect party, with perfectly wonderful people having a perfectly enjoyable evening. Saw so many friends, had interesting conversations, witnessed a spectacular Compo sunset and remarked how extraordinarily lucky we are to live in a picture postcard town. Some things never change. Thanks Dan!

  3. Wait a minute, you had cupcakes? And they looked like really good cupcakes. Darn, sorry I wasn’t able to make it now…….and then also.

    my best to Mike Rea

  5. Dan: It was a wonderful evening. We saw old friends and made some new ones. Brian brought the left over cupcakes to the Gillespie Center this morning.

Great time. The fortunate part of it all is what 06880 brings to Westport. Thank you Dan!!

By the way-how did you arranged such beautiful weather and the sunset????

  7. To all of my 06880 partners-in-rhyme (ah, prose)– I’m sure it was a delightful opportunity for all to enjoy each other’s company at Compo…I was there with you in spirit! The pics are darling…! Great fun, I’m sure! 😉

I will try and time my next visit back to Connecticut when next year’s 06880 takes place. Susan, also letting you know that I went to High School with Pete Zaffina, and understand he passed away several years ago. He was a great guy! Last time I saw him and Jose was at the Georgetown Saloon for the neighborhood Holiday get-together about 15 years ago. It was a wonderful evening, and got to sit in with the band for a few tunes. I remember the night well! (from the OTHER Westport)

  8. Nice! I like nice. Nice people, nice place, nice party. Wish I could have been there. Maybe next year.

    • Thanks, Bill — much appreciated. Bring your keyboard. Perhaps Jose Feliciano will bring his guitar. Keith Richards too. 06883 would be welcome at the “06880” party.

  9. It was a great time. My wife got a chance to see or meet some of the regular 06880 cast. Dan, as always, was a gracious host. I thought I would finally meet “The Dude Abides” from those wild anonymous posting days. No luck. Paraphrasing Bart Shuldman here – 06880 is Westport’s way of staying informed.

    • Thanks, Don. It was great having the O’Days there. Lots of regular commenters, and those who never do. They’re all part of the “06880” community. Last night, “Westport meets the world” met at the beach. Thanks to all who were there (and organizer Mary Hoffman!).

  10. Bummed our trips are never synced with your party, Dan. This year, it’s mid-August. It may be a drive now through with dinner somewhere while visiting relatives in NJ and then Philly burbs. Sometimes it’s June, sometimes it’s July. I thought we’d stay at Longshore but my plan has been foiled.

Congratulations on the great event, and so happy you had super weather. Sorry I couldn’t join – had to work late. Looks like the perfect party !!!

    • THANKS — too bad you couldn’t make it. Good luck on your Cedar Point Yacht Club event today — hope the weather holds.
