One of the most remarkable downtown photos of all time:
The bad news: You can’t drive down Main Street today.
The good news: The merchants get a bit more time to shovel their sidewalk.

LOL. Maybe they cleaned the sidewalks and put it there
It will only be a matter of time before someone parks their SUV atop that pile.
I have to admit I’d be a bit unhappy with that if I owned a store or restaurant on Main Street
How about a front loader putting it in the river? When it melts it will end up there anyway. ..
That’s one for the archive.
Sadly, with the salt this mound won’t melt very quickly.
This is not very bright. What happens if there’s a fire?
This had to be a “frozen” moment in time, NO??? Nobody is allowed to put snow in bodies of water anymore…but how about the lawn in front of the library?
How about putting it on Jesup Green
Does anyone know if the parking lot behind Acqua how been plowed? They are open for dinner. Is Main Street still closed?
I bet it was just there waiting for the trucks to haul it away to the water… Difficult to keep up!!
Perhaps you’ll find the heads of Mount Rushmore carved into the side of this mound by tomorrow morning. Mount RushPort!
Yes: Jim Marpe, Gordon Joseloff, Diane Farrell and Joe Arcudi.
I think excess snow gets piled at Compo on the fields. They can no longer dump it in the water. Don’t know why that is an issue-it IS salt water, isn’t it??
Wrong kind of salt. Poor fields.
Actually folks, if you enlarge the picture you can see that Main St. is perfectly clear behind it. And there were lanes open from both directions on PRE. AS we all know if it is not gone yet it will be by morning.
Thank you Dave. And, if you drive down to Compo parking lot you will see where a lot of snow comes to rest.
200 years from now someone will see this picture and say…look, the fountain is covered with snow!!
Yes, in 200 years it may be a Venetian fountain one sees.
LOL Dan!!
If snow damaged Staples fields we wouldn’t be LOL, would we?
