As If We Need One More Hour Of This Election Campaign…

Don’t forget to set your clocks back 1 hour tonight!

Spring Ahead!

There is light at the end of the tunnel.

This Saturday night, we turn our clocks ahead one hour.

Daylight Savings Time is here. That pile of snow outside, which won’t melt until Memorial Day?

Just an illusion.

An Offer You Probably Should Refuse

The fine folks at oddly named New Country Toyota greeted the arrival of Daylight Savings Time this morning with an email blast to customers.

We were invited to drop by the dealer any time. Even without an appointment, they’ll adjust the car’s clock — for free!

(They also offer an “optional multi-point inspection” — presumably not free.)

Sorry — I don’t buy it. If you can’t set the time on your car clock, you probably should not be allowed on the road.

Spring Forward!

Daylight Savings Time starts tomorrow. So before going to bed tonight, “spring” your clocks forward one hour. (Though “spring” will not arrive, weather-wise, until July.)

But Daylight Savings Time hasn’t always started the 2nd weekend in March. For many years, it came  at the end of April. Then it got moved to late March, before creeping even earlier, by a couple of more weeks.

Daylight Savings

At the back end, Daylight Savings Time has been extended from late October, to early November.

Which means Standard Time now runs for only 4 months.

And that means it’s not so “standard” any more. Daylight Savings Time is our default mode.

Perhaps we should call tomorrow “Eastern Standard Time.”

And rename the winter months “Daylight Loss Time.”

One More Hour Of No Power

My friend Katherine Hooper notes:

“We set our clocks back tonight. That means an extra hour — of no power, heat or internet.”

It never rains. It pours…
