An all-ages, high-energy crowd filled the Westport Library’s Trefz Forum last night.
Board of Finance chair Danielle Dobin interviewed President George W. Bush’s former press secretary, and current Fox News star Dana Perino, about her new novel.
“Purple State” explores love across political lines. It’s an apt subject, and the 2 women were well paired. Perino and Dobin were roommates on Capitol Hill 30 years ago, while working for congressmen of different political parties.
They’ve remained friends ever since. Last night, they discussed — and demonstrated — how and why those relationships are important.

Starting this summer, Aquarion will install a new water main from Hemlocks Reservoir in Fairfield to Coleytown Road.
A community meeting is set for tonight (Wednesday, 6 p.m., Patterson Club, Fairfield) to discuss the impact to traffic flow during construction. Road restoration will be completed by 2028.

The Westport connection is growing. Animal Packs is being added to the toy collection at the Westport Library. It’s already available at other libraries, including Pequot and Fairfield Public.

The next Veterans Benefits Luncheon is tomorrow (Thursday, June 25, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.), VFW Post 399).
It’s open to all veterans as part of an ongoing effort to check in on all veterans’ welfare, and connect them with the benefits and support they earned.
Representatives will answer questions, and provide information on services and assistance available to veterans.

One of the many things I continue to admire about Dan (since I first met him at Burr Farms School where my single, widowed mom would take me to work) is that he always finds a way, in the most contentious situations, of bringing BOTH sides together. It took a lot of courage for that “Fox Woman” to come to Westport and it couldn’t have happened without “Our Dan.”

He’s referring to Dana Perino I believe. She’s a regular on the Fox News program “The Five” and is former press secretary for President George W. Bush. For a Fox News personality she’s pretty middle of the road and seems a decent sort.
Yes I know, I just thought it was an odd, perhaps disrespectful way, to describe her. I’m not sure why it would take a lot of courage for her to visit our town, but perhaps if so many share such negative views of “the other side” then maybe it does.

Ms. Perino isn’t “casual” about her identity. She’s an individual (currently female but who knows? and has been a centrist voice of reason at Fox for many years as Mr. “Duke” Wet has so patiently attempted to explain. If he fails in 2nd try I’m sure we can clarify at Dan’s summer “shindig” on South Beach. Can’t wait to see all my Democrat friends. The Republicans have all disappeared. Who needs them? Only Jen Tooker (and the orange man). As the saying goes: “I’m just a soul who’s intentions are good 😌 Oh Lord, please don’t let me be misunderstood.” I originated the phrase (but failed to copywrite it).
On the Aquarion map, there is a label at lower left that says, “Coleytown Road intersection and Bradway.” I wonder what the word “Bradway” is referring to.

Could be a misspelling or a typo. Other than the innovative “widget” that he recently commenced as a very cool feature, Dan has resisted using AI and involves mentees as interns. They stopped using spelling bees as teaching tools in Westport many years ago because they were thought to be beneath the high intellectual threshold of the average Westport child. The whole paradigm shift was similar to what happened back in my day when woodshop was discontinued as a required subject and was made an elective. Unfortunately, I chose the other elective (Mechanical Drawing) and chopped off my right hand trying to build a dog house (my wife and I were having “issues”). I solved the problem by buying a prefab dog house at Home Depot. There was no money left for a prosthesis so I elected to pursue the role of Captain Hook in stage, screen and television. My Westport connections were very helpful in this regard (Jack Backiel was not involved. His choice. At that point, we parted company.
