For those that study history in Westport, here is information on the Oyster House. According to town records the building was constructed in 1747 as the cooperage (a structure for making wooden casks or barrels) for the first tidal grist mill on the Mill Pond. Then in c.1870, it was moved across the 83-Acre Mill Pond by oxen by the Northrop family member. The structure was awarded a Westport Preservation Award in 2013 to recognize its “rehabilitation of a historic structure.
