What Kind Of A Town …

What kind of a town do you want to live in?

Sustainable Westport asked several dozen residents, of all ages.

They said they want to live in a place that:

  • Protects the natural environment
  • Provides green space for all
  • Enhances renewable energy
  • Promotes composting
  • Teaches kids how to garden
  • Embraces bike riding
  • Focuses on sustainability
  • Eliminates single-use plastics
  • Works toward its net-zero commitment
  • Supports farmers
  • Honors trees
  • Cares about the future.

Is that too much to ask?

Those answers — part of a video shot against a backdrop of water — form the heart of the environmental organization’s Community Giving Challenge.

The goal is to inspire 250 residents to invest “invest in the town we all want to live in,” and make the vision expressed by our neighbors in the video a reality.

“Every single Westporter has a role to play in shaping Westport’s future,” Sustainable Westport says.

“Your gift, no matter the amount, will power our mission to inspire, support and connect residents, organizations, and the town of Westport in making both small changes and big commitments toward a healthier, more sustainable future.”

The fund drive kicks off December 1. But you can “seed” it now. Click here to give.

  1. Do our elected representatives share these goals ?

  2. We just made a donation to support this terrific initiative and the vital programs and goals they are championing.

  3. Those 11 answers are about the same you’d get in 1954 Westport.

Instead of donating money to have someone else do it why not just beseech Westporters to stop living like cartoon characters with the last name Pigg (first name Porky) and clean up after themselves. Same goes with healthcare. Same goes with hate crimes. Same goes with affordable housing.
LIVE LIFE LIKE YOU WERE A NON-PROFIT!!!

    • Eric Buchroeder SHS ‘70 , Is your IQ 170 or 190? Come on, be honest.

        Jack,
My IQ is solid, but not extraordinary (compared to most Staples grads). The people (other than you) who regularly post on 06880 just make it look like it’s 170 or 190.

No one said it wasn’t. The implication was anyone can throw money at a problem but it’s so much more meaningful to start “close in” (where most problems originate). I do SO wish I’d had you back in the day. We would have had some very stimulating class discussions. My GPA back then was so low I was pretty much a loose cannon anyway. Happy Thanksgiving.

I would gather a guess that a majority of town folk would support these measures. They are basically common sense in the threatened world we live in now. But I would like to see these goals come out of my taxes rather than make any donation. When you ban plastic bags and allow a massive amount of cars picking up students polluting the air (while not using the buses), your focus is misdirected IMO. http://www.carladdisonswanson.com
