It was a red-letter day, for the blue house.
Siding was delivered yesterday to 233 Hillspoint Road. That’s the house at the foot of Compo Hill — the site of the former Positano restaurant — that has been swathed in Tyvek since approximately the Ford administration.
No word on when the next phase of construction will be completed. But for neighbors — and the thousands of people who pass by daily — it can’t come soon enough.

The quirky cottage at 246 Hillspoint Road bears a demolition notice.
The hydrangeas are (thankfully) next door. Let’s hope they frame whatever (big) house replaces this one as beautifully as they do, in today’s “Westport … Naturally” image.

And finally … on this date in 1957, a school pal invited 15-year old Paul McCartney to listed to 16-year-old John Lennon’s skiffle group, the Quarrymen, play at a Liverpool church event. Soon after, Lennon invited McCartney to join the band.
The world was never the same.
Though they shared writing credits on dozens of songs, most were written primarily by one or the other. Among the songs they both contributed equally to:

Speaking of the Beatles, there’s a wonderful Paul McCartney photography exhibit at the Brooklyn Museum now thru 8/18. (Great activity on a hot/humid/rainy day). Didn’t know he was a fabulous photographer as well as musician!
Thank you Dan for remembering this important date in music history. Before they stopped touring, John and Paul were together constantly, in England, Germany, in the recording studio and doing live shows all over the world. It made made sense that in this time frame, they were able to closely write together, as John said, “eyeball to eyeball”. After they stopped performing live, they were more often left to their own devices and naturally grew more independent as song writers. In any event, I thank god for their time together and their impact on the world.
ps. I hope everyone has had a chance to enjoy “Now and Then”. It is beautiful and powerful.
nice photo Robin. Regards from Anchorage.
John Lennon and Yoko had a house on South Ocean Boulevard in 1978. Maybe around 2009, I was driving by and saw some workers at the house. I stopped to ask them who was buying the house for supposedly 40 million and the worker told me, “Some author bought it.” I’m thinking, yeah right, some guy who writes books spent 40 million for a house . Well… as it turns out, the author who bought it was James Patterson! I got a picture with him in 2014.
Little known Beatles fact: the official and legal end to the Beatles came on 12/29/74 when John signed the documents in the Magic Kingdom, Polynesian Village Hotel, Disney world, Florida.
Can’t let a mention of the “Blue House” go w/o saying (again) that ya’ can’t make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear; that disaster will blight its beautiful neighborhood forever. The original owner, the current owner and the architect should be ashamed to have it represent them.
Don’t give the ZBA a pass
Oh, Yeah, and Robin Tauck, an influential neighbor two doors down, who spoke in favor of the disaster.
