Police Probe Antisemitic Flyers

Westport Police are investigating hate flyers, found today on driveways in the Partrick Road neighborhood.

The flyers — in plastic baggies, weighted down with rice — included content that was “somewhat random and incoherent,” a WPD statement said, “but was antisemitic in nature.”

The tagline said, “Every single asset of abortion is Jewish.”  The flyer listed prominent Jewish men whose work, it claims, was responsible for easing restrictions on terminating pregnancies and allowing the availability of contraceptives.

First Selectwoman Jen Tooker said, “I am grateful to the Police for managing this latest issue with expediency and professionalism. Westport will use all of its available resources to combat this hate and to strongly message that these statements and sentiments do not have a place here in Westport.”

“In collaboration with the Connecticut ADL, TEAM Westport and local officials, we will continue to make strides to ensure that Westport is a place where everyone is welcome, and everyone feels that they belong. Safety is always a top priority.”

TEAM Westport Chairman Harold Bailey, Jr. added, “This hate-filled vitriol is an assault on the fabric and values of every segment of the Westport community. We all stand in solidarity as Westporters in our firm rejection of both the message and messenger.”

Police ask anyone in the Partrick Road area to review surveillance cameras from yesterday evening (Sunday, July 19) through today, and report anything suspicious to the Detective Bureau: 203-341-6080.

Wow! Not only are these hateful messages they are stupid if they believe that since the Old Testament wants the Jewish people to have many children and the very observant jews don’t use birth control so they can keep having lots of babies. It’s very similar to large catholic families. So ignorant haters are trying to spread misinformation as well as hate!

  2. This is unfortunate and sad. Considering the violence perpetrated against Jews over the past few years, it’s, however, unsurprising.

In light of Dan’s new rules, I won’t comment on the national-level activity that encourages this type of thing.

I’m sure the authorities have checked the Ring doorbells in the area. How about a $15,000 dollar reward for the arrest and conviction?

Jen, It doesn’t have to be one person! It could be 50 people.

Absolutely stunned that this happened in Westport, disgusting and horrifying at the same time

Perhaps the ADL could help coordinate a reward, and it could be for a lesser amount.

I delayed my response to this post wondering if I should say anything since, I no longer live in Westport. I finally decided I should respond. I now live and have lived for a long time in a suburb of Houston Texas. This spring we had similar hate flyers thrown on our driveways. Another close by neighborhood had the same thing happen the same night. There were two distinct types. One was antisemitic and the other anti LBGTQ. Rolled tightly. placed in a plastic bag and weighted with, in our case, very small stone pebbles. I of course don’t know if it helps to know this happened somewhere else. We also asked people to review their security cameras with no conclusive results.

I lived in Sugar Creek. TX. for 30 years and no issue. But since W, Texas has gone dumb.

A Jewish kid painted swastikas all over Fort Apache medical center back decades ago. I guess nothing new but seems heightened by the political fever in the country.
