    So, wait … what’s the “longer” backstory here?

    Like, why would Gault keep the older sign of the chemical product name on their building, etc?

    What’s the history?

    (And if that Dolge product actually worked on bedbugs, which is apparently still a real problem, then … details).

    We sold a variety of Dolge products at my dad’s hardware store in Saugatuck back in the 60’s and 70’s. Probably all would be banned now as too toxic.

    I was fortunate to meet Mr. and Mrs. Dolge and their very young daughter back in the late 1970’s when I was the Lifeguard/Beachboy at The Saugatuck Shores Club where they were new members. They were memorable as a very “untanned” Mr. Dolge would join his sunny younger wife and daughter for twilight swims and early picnic dinners. Mrs. [Susan] Dolge reminded me distinctly of the Movie Mother of Ben from the classic movie, “The Graduate.” She was very demonstrative and happily opinionated in her demeanor in contrast to her very quiet but very pleasant and nice husband.

    ps shoutout to Tom Duquette – Hey Tom! I am a lifetime friend of Bob Yingling’s and recall many parking lot moments at Peter’s Bridge just listening while you pals caught up! I do recall you had a very sweet white Camaro with broad navy stripes which you gave to your sister when you went to college – Great Brother!

    Fascinating history – passed sign as a commuter for years and always wondered about it. Background of books is equally interesting. Is that a collection of Charles Dickens novels with “Bleak House” just behind the bottle?

    I am sure that there is a lot more to this story than is written here. I will repost on Facebook and see what comes up. Alan Dolge graduated from Staples in 1958. He served in the military as a pilot. I think Naval but I am not sure that is 100% correct. He also flew for one of the major airlines. The company was started either by his Dad or Granddad. we will see what Facebook turns up.
    Alan’s mother and mine were friends and did volunteer work together. My guess is that he is not the untanned Mr. Dolge mentioned above.

      Navy Pilot is correct. The CB Dolge Company was a great local employer “King” Dolge was its last President. Alan was a later generation. His Grandfather started the company.

    We used to live next to him on South Morningside Drive. I think he went to Choate and Harvard, and I remember him as very distinguished.

    The Dolge company also manufactured embalming supplies. I knew Tracy Dolge, son of the owner, at Staples, class of ‘62.
