Portables Put In Place

They don’t look like much.

But they don’t have to.

Four portable (aka modular) classrooms arrived at Bedford Middle School today.

Four more are on their way.

They’ll be fully installed and hooked up soon — well in time for the start of the next school year.

All Coleytown Middle School students will be together again, at BMS.

“They may not look like much” but they cost a pretty penny, adding to the tens of millions in costs from the CMS mold debacle. Anyone who has a basement knows that humidity control is a big issue — especially last summer. Wonder why school officials didn’t catch this before it was too late.

Wow, I hope they look better on the inside than they do on the outside. I feel sad for the teachers who will have most of their classes in these boxes. Such a shame what’s happening to our (once) beautiful school. I really hope these portables are a temporary measure and CMS can re-open in 2020.

We had portables at Hillspoint when I was a student- none of thought anything of it and it worked just fine!

  4. We used portables at New Canaan High school for years. Teaching in one was actually fun and the kids liked getting outside at least for the short walk from the building. Impact on learning was minimal if at all. They’ll be fine.

There’s been a portable off the side at KHS so long it’s more of a “permanent-able”. Somehow the kids managed to survive taking decades of music classes there. The town should just cover it with brick and let the ivy grow up it.

In the military we have a saying “THERE’S NOTHING MORE PERMANENT

Haha, true. People say that about portables too: “Once you get them they never go away.” Well, I appreciate the positive perspective from those who’ve experienced portables and hope our experience with them at Bedford is just as good. Would be nice to have a few more windows in them, though. 🙂
