The closing of Oscar’s Delicatessen ended a great Westport tradition: the annual Oscars at Oscar’s pre-party.
But the Westport Cinema Initiative has filled the gap.
A number of local businesses have become “polling places” for a contest. Just stop in and vote for who you think will win awards this Sunday in a variety of categories: Best Leading Actor and Actress; Best Supporting Actor and Actress; Best Director; Best Picture; Best Animated Feature; Best Documentary and Best Foreign Film.
Winners receive prizes donated by those merchants.
The contest ends this Sunday (February 26) at 4 p.m. You can vote at these locations:
- Le Rouge by Aarti
- iFloat
- Francois du Pont Jewelers
- Organachs Farm to Skin
- Vincent Palumbo Salon
- The Brownstone
- Green & Tonic
- The UPS Store
- Downunder
- Westport Hardware
- Saugatuck Sweets
- Joe’s Pizza
- Simon Pearce
- Body Quest
- Soleil Toile
PS: As you enjoy the Oscars Sunday night, raise a glass in memory of Oscar’s.

Isn’t there some place that would let us meet tomorrow or Sunday afternoon? I am friendly with Rio Bravo Mexican restaurant ( in the old Pier I shopping center. I bet they’d welcome us. Is it too late to spread the word? They have very affordable lunch items as well and would probably not even require a purchase!

Gee Dan! We are on a roll! Three post in a row have made me miss all you! I always worked Sundays at Oscar’s and certainly enjoyed Sue’s pre-Oscar afternoon! Delightful and informative!
I stopped in this afternoon at Le Rouge to fill out a ballot for the n’Oscar’s contest… and was pleased to see that the chocolate heart “Give a Little Love” campaign is still going strong there. I had missed it at Valentine’s day, and this was my first visit there. I had thought it was a wonderful idea, and now, even better that this charitable opportunity to show appreciation for others isn’t just limited to February 14th! I am missing Oscar’s and all the pre-event festivities that Westport Cinema Initiative has been so good at planning.
