Julia Marino: X Marks The Spot

On Thursday night, Julia Marino — the greatest snowboarder in Westport history — earned a medal at her 1st-ever X Games, in Aspen.

She finished 3rd in big air (going over one super-huge jump — duh).

Today, she competes in slopestyle. (Racing down a course with a variety of obstacles — rails, jumps, that sort of stuff. Points are scored for amplitude, originality and quality of tricks. But you knew that.)

The competition is televised live on ABC. The fun begins at 3:15 p.m. EST.

She was awesome! Big cheers from our house!! I asked the guys at the Inn at Aspen (base of Buttermilk) to talk to ESPN about getting Julia to sign something so we can hang it in the restaurant when its re-decorated this Summer – that way when she’s back next year to warm up for the Olympics she’ll have a local fan club.

      • Thanks for thinking of Julia! I will see her on Thursday and Friday next week at the Toyota US Grand Prix at Mammoth Lakes, CA., so I’ll bring one of her fan photos and have her sign it for the Inn at Aspen. I will e-mail Megan to get the details. — Elaine
