O Christmas Tree!

With the help of a gaggle of little kids, 1st Selectman Jim Marpe lit the town Christmas tree this evening, on the Town Hall lawn.

Staples’ Orphenians sang. The Westport Historical Society provided hot chocolate. Youngsters gleefully counted down “3 … 2 … 1!”

Rockefeller Center it ain’t.

But it doesn’t have to be. Another Westport holiday season has “officially” begun.

Luke Rosenberg leads the Staples Orphenians.

Oh, I would have loved to hear the Orphenians singing!

I miss being in choir at Staples (didn’t have the chops to make the Orph’s).

A small group of us would sometimes do a caroling route around the neighborhoods this time of year, (with a few of those amazing Orphenian-voices joining us), to serenade the locals. We even hit Mr. (Dr. ?) Weigle’s place once. And maybe Jack Adam’s too – not sure about Hanulick’s though, lol (sorry for any name misspellings here – this was in the 80’s).

    Man, good times!

    • You probably hit Mr. Hanulik’s house. He lived next door to Dr. Weigle!

OMG – well, blow me down – how cool is it that you knew this!!

My growing-up neighborhood was the Old Hill/Nature Center/Kings Highway/Bedford part of town, but my musical croonies during high school were mostly of the Long Lots or Green’s (or Greens, lol) Farms Academy side … so that’s where we hit the streets for caroling.

Thanks Dan! (and thanks for the memories, lol). 😉
