It’s one thing to read on “06880” that Eversource is using helicopters with high-res cameras to inspect transmission lines, looking for problems like lightning strikes and corrosion.

It’s another thing entirely to actually see one hovering outside your window.

Helicopter over Westport

An alert — and frightened — “06880” reader writes:

That was right outside my front door, near Hillspoint Road. It was so loud and low. It really scared me, since I thought it would crash. It would have been nice if the residents were alerted.

Consider this your alert.

Meanwhile, does anyone know anything about the helicopters that regularly fly over town, usually at 7 a.m. and 10:30 p.m.? I’ve always thought they belonged to some very wealthy Westporter, commuting to and from work.

    Where’s the snow?!

  2. The helicopters you speak of are either coming from Igor sakorsky airport in Bridgeport/Stratford…. Or they are execs at GE…. We seem them come and go often…

  3. looks like a menacing spider

  4. I think I read recently that UI or Eversource or ? is looking up close at wires and realted connections or something. And it said we should expect to see helicopters doing it.

  5. With the Sikorsky Helicopter plant just a few miles away in Stratford, I always assumed most local chopper flyovers were test flights.

It looks like one of Sikorsky’s light turbine helicopters.

  7. I could have saved them a lot of money by using my drone! Takes awesome video and stills and it will not scare the villagers!

  8. It’s Bobby Axe!

  9. These commuter helicopters come over Norwalk. I see them came out of the northeast and then return trip back to the northeast. I think it’s someone or a group farther North in CT. It’s always the same path. Manhattan is their destination and/or the airport. (The choppers going east to west or vis versa are life star/hospital helicopters the need for speed when the ambulance isn’t the fastest option. Norwalk Hospital has it own landing pad.)

  10. After living in the Los Angeles for 35 years, if we didn’t get a helicopter flying or hovering low over my property every day then something is wrong!

  11. The daily flights are Bill “Cosby” Clinton transporting interns.

  12. If you search on “commute to nyc by helicopter” you will find the answer.
