Hannah DeBalsi Does It Again!

Staples’ super sophomore Hannah DeBalsi “ran away” with yesterday’s New Balance Outdoor National high school 2-mile championship. She won it by a phenomenal 13 seconds, in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Hannah’s 10:09.08 is a personal best. And she did it by beating girls she had never outraced before.

Last year she placed 3rd — with a national freshman record of 10:16.

Here is a link to a video of Hannah’s race.

A couple of hours ago the Staples Distance Medley Relay team [Erica Hefnawy (1200m), Olivia Wiener (400m), Tyler Scanlin (800m), Hannah DeBalsi (1600m)] took silver, breaking the state record (set last year by Staples) by more than seven seconds.

Congratulations Hannah. As a former member of the Staples track team you make me very proud! Keep up the good work and I look forward to hearing about all your future accomplishments.

  4. Hannah doesn’t break records, she shatters them! Last year we had Henry Wynne as a National Champion, this year it is Hannah. You go girl! We get to watch her for another two years.
The Staples Track and Field program is one of the best athletic programs we have led by terrific coaches Laddie Lawerence and Jesse McCray and their assistants. Congratulations to all the runners, jumpers, and throwers for an excellent year.
