The media focus in the week leading up to Sunday’s Daytona 500 NASCAR race was on Danica Patrick — the 1st woman to snag a pole position at the Sprint Cup series.
The focus now is on today’s Nationwide race. A frightening multi-car crash moments before the end of the last lap sent one car airborne, into the fence separating the track from the stands. An engine landed in the grandstand, on fire. At least 6 fans were injured.
Fortunately, Westport’s Parker Kligerman kept his cool. The 2009 Staples grad avoided trouble, and finished 5th.
A porn king, and a race car driver on 06880 in one day…I love this town!!!
I have been a NASCAR fan most of my life…that crash was bad….real bad….kudos to NASCAR with all the new safety regs, protective barriers and equipment etc it just could have been alot worse…i was even happier to see our guy Parker made it through ok!!! Will be exciting to see him race this season!!!
Parker was driving as a freshman at Staples. He was able to balance school work and racing two years prior to obtaining a CT driving license. He has grown to be an ace driver and a great young man. Staples is very proud of this alumnus.
Great shot of #77 streaking by the crash in today’s Times. Crazy! http://www.nytimes.com/pages/sports/index.html?adxnnl=1&adxnnlx=1361718134-6jNUnDjS01tIV1Sj1a+lCw
Nice post. I learn something more challenging on different blogs everyday. It will always be stimulating to read content from other writers and practice a little something from their store. I’d prefer to use some with the content on my blog whether you don’t mind. Natually I’ll give you a link on your web blog. Thanks for sharing.
