Bathhouse Blues, Part 2

A recent “06880” post on beach stuff junk left in the Compo bathhouses brought a flood of comments — less about Westporters’ tendency to not clean up after themselves, than about the aging bathhouses themselves.

It also brought a note from Debbie Parnon. As chairman of Darien’s Weed Beach Building Committee, she recently oversaw the renovation of a bathhouse in 06820.

“We replaced an outdated, dirty old bathhouse with an amazing building that reflects how much we value our beach,” she says.

Weed Beach bathhouse before…

The project included construction of a new paddle warming structure, and an outdoor fire pit for the public to use when renting the building.

The budget was $3.3 million. The final cost: $3.1 million — $200,000 under budget.

“Would love to see Westport enhance the Compo Beach facility,” Debbie says.

So would many others.

  1. Sank T. Monious

Maybe Sandy will give Wet Spot an early Festivus present.

  2. Looks like another “taking” from those radical Darien socialists.

  3. Okay. I gotta say it…

If all of you clamoring for new facilities want it SO badly, you’ll have no problem asking Melissa & Doug for the funds.

2 or 3 million is a drop in the bucket for them. But just remember that the entire building will be named after them!!

  4. Reality check- We can’t afford it!

    • Westport Convert

We can afford it if it’s funded privately, which I personally have no problem with. Have a local business sponsor the renovation or appeal to the big money people by the beach..

Just make sure NO TAXPAYER MONEY is involved!

      • I pay taxes and user fees for services/facilities just like this.

      • I wonder how many Westporters would voluntarily contribute towards building new lockers? Count me in. Would the Town be willing to do a non-binding survey to test the proposition that this can be built entirely with private funds?

  5. I happen to like our bath houses – just need some sprucing up.

  6. How come Darien can afford it?
