Hoisting Beers Before The Storm

While many Westporters bought batteries, secured boats and cleared storm drains, others — joined by plenty of out-of-towners — descended on Veterans Green for our 1st-ever Biergarten on the Green.

Storm clouds may be gathering to the south, but for 3 hours yesterday afternoon, the little-used park across from Town Hall turned into a New England version of a German beer garden.

Beaver Beer (shown here), Compo HIll Brewing and other vendors strutted their stuff in a big tent on Veterans Green.

Drafts were poured. Bratwursts were served. An oompah band played.

It was the signature portion of Foodie Fest, the brainchild of the Westport Downtown Merchants Association. They’ve created several intriguing events — like Blues, Views & BBQ — to entertain. (And draw folks to nearly Main Street).

It seems to work. Tons of non-Westporters came to town today. Hopefully, they had a good enough time — and saw enough of Main Street — to linger. Or want to return.

Even if there is no place here to buy lederhosen.

Oscar’s provided bratwursts, bread, pickles — and bagels.

Little kids can drink too. Root beer, that is.

No biergarten is complete without an oompah band.

Huge smile spread across my face, Dan when I typed “Westport, CT low lying areas” into Google…and THIS popped up! YOU are THE voice of Westport for me…and my anxious shoulders lowered to normal level. Stay safe.
