Connecticut and DEEP ned to get serious and work on what is closing these beaches and remove the biological pollution that is causing the closures. Lower Long Island Sound is one of the most polluted inland coastal bodies in the US! UGH!
If test results were not expected until next Tuesday (according to an earlier report), how is it that Compo is now open for swimming today?
I believe there was a re-test performed sooner than the expected one next Monday.
Possibly political.
It’s been closed almost as often as opened.. not a good look- especially if new construction begins on anything in the Saugatuck area. . 😉
Let’s have a public meeting with the top officials at DEEP, and some similar responsible EPA officials and throw inGov. LAMONT and get the pollution under control!
Shit!, why don’t these beauracrats do the JOB!
Somehow the entire process doesn’t instill much confidence in the safety of swimming at Compo.
According to Google, the water is polluted primarily from nitrogen used in lawn care, farming, and waste water treatment. Another problem is old septic systems from many homes near the shore. There are also pollutants from industry. Imagine the Governor mandating that all septic systems older than X years must be replaced or that every home within X miles from the Sound must be hooked up to a sewer system. This is not going to be solved.
As expected. John to the rescue of the hamlet, which will most certainly mean based on this summer, total closure of the beach for sewage, all week, every week.
Are you an investor ?
One wonders how in your opinion any old 💩 seems to be ok ! And I live in Saugatuck also.
Seriously @Dan Woog, what’s with all the personal attacks on your blog recently?
Maybe we need a breathalyzer before people can post.
Ciara, whoever the F you are, do some homework about former Principal Dodig, a lifelong educator, before you run your mouth across your keyboard. There was no mention of The Hamlet in his innocent post.
And John McCarthy wonders why I moved…
Many of you should recall that our new Parks & Rec. Director, Erik Barbieri, expressed his concern with the beach closing process a few weeks ago. Erik thought we could do better and was going to try to address the issues. My guess is that Erik did just that and the quick reopening of the beach is attributable to Erik’s engagement. If true, it highlights how one person, doing their job well, can make a big difference.
