Unsung Heroes #368

On Monday, Superintendent of Schools Thomas Scarice issued a statement affirming the right of Westport youngsters to attend public school here regardless of their immigration status.

Citing legal counsel, he added that ICE agents cannot enter the inside of schools here without a valid wrrant, consent from school officials, or an extreme emergency.

“Our priority remains providing a safe learning enviornment for every student,” the superintendent concluded.

That’s an astonishingly low bar for heroism.

But at a time when the state of Oklahoma has moved to request proof of citizenship or immigration status from families when they enroll their children in public schools — and on the heels of an email from an “06880” reader whose daughter teaches 2nd grade in South Carolina, describing the fear her primarily Hispanic students have for themselves and their families — we will honor a stand for compassion and humanity wherever we can fine it.

I hope all rabbis are speaking out against this atrocity. Trump released violent criminal domestic terrorist insurrecrionists cop beaters and called them “ hostages”. Vile! He said immigrants in Ohio ate cats and dogs. Vile. This man is a performative, bigoted, racist, gaslighting clown and grifter. Time to speak up and out! Do NOT comply. HE is more dangerous to society than the majority of immigrants!

I have connected before asking the clergy to stand up. Whete is Westport’s clergy on this matter? Elon Musk is hosting far right digital rally’s in a Germany giving the Natzi salute. Musk has criticized Germany prosecutors for being harsh in right wing criminal behavior. How does a free decent society and decent clergy allow this to go blowing in the wind

      • Stephanie Frankel

There is a defense of Musk bc he “supports” Israel and has visited Aushwitz. People have said it was not the Nazi salute. I pesonally disagree. I believe he caters to the real base just like Trump does while grifting and using Jews for power and protection. Just my own opinion. Trump and Musk are all about their money and power, not humanity. I do not accept someone as a savior to the Jews if they are commiting acts of evil to others.

Oh, Dan, damning with a touch of faint praise! You are PO’d indeed. Which coach is next on the chopping black? When do the lawsuits get filed? When do — ah, the sound of napalm in the morningI — the DEPOSITIONS start.

If Tom barricades himself in his office with a targeted student, then he might desrve your attention.

  4. Dan – I’m surprised by two typos in this most recent email, as I don’t think I’ve seen any in the past. So you are human – or some auto correct/AI out maneuvered you! I always enjoy reading your posts/emails. Cheers.

Many of us feel there is no concern request proof of status. One has to prove residency to attend our schools. If you did not follow the law … there are consequences.
Its all our tax dollars at work. We can not save the world and this is reality.

    • Stephanie Frankel

What if Trump did not follow the law? Are there consequences for him or is he above or even against the law?

  6. Proud you took a stand against this insanity.

I applaud all, individuals, groups and organizations who are paying attention to the several illegal actions that Trump and his team have already committed. They are all heroes. The Trump theory of government is “do whatever I want” and see if we can avoid reversals in Court or simply benefit by the delays in judicial determinations. I am not talking about tax policy, tariffs or other substantive issues. I am talking about our national government engaging in illegal acts at the direction of Pres. Trump.

Thanks Dan. This is why we support your work. The “astonishingly low bar” description speaks to me.

Many of us support Unitary Executive Theory. The President needs to aggressively take control of the country that is out of control and put in guardrails and consequences. National security is too at risk. We are loving what he is doing internally and externally. Yes, there are many times the President ‘must break the law’ .. this is why we have covert and top secret operations that we never allow see the light of day .. let alone congress.

    • Stephanie Frankel

So basically Jeffery is saying Trump is king, above the law, against the law, and obstructs the law. The fact that people applaud that is downright frightening. This is why teaching civics must be a requirement in education, not Trump Americans not first gaslit HIStory. Who is “we”? Insurrectionists who are brainwashed by him?

  10. Jeffrey Schaefer

No, but the country needs to be run more like a corporation. We are stuck in paralysis. He was voted in to make the decisions on behalf of the voters and make the tough decisions for the benefit of US citizens….Its not frightening at all .. the last four years were frightening as the country was out of control. Discipline needs to be reinstated.

    • Stephanje Frankel

What is the DISCIPLINE of Donald J Trump’s crimes?

    • Elizabeth Thibault

Neither our country nor our government is a corporation. Its sole directive is not to increase shareholder value, but instead, it is to ensure our rights and obligations to the constitution, deliver the services that ensure our way of life, and reflect our collective values and responsibilities.
Trump has neither a resounding mandate or the rule of law behind his actions. To imply what he’s doing is for the benefit of all citizens is farcical at best.

You are taking two separate issues: The state of the country and Trump’s legal problems and lumping them into one argument. Doesn’t survive the smell test. It’s unfortunate, but the country thought Trump’s policies were sound enough to endure the smell of his personal conduct. It’s obvious that Westport feels differently but that’s show biz.

And DEI : a person’s gener, sexual preference , and skin tone are to blame for a plane crash! Dear lord Jesus this is Christianity or Judaism?! Make it stop. The 25th could be the best option. He is a danger and threat to all. I have seen enough to know this man is inhindged and this is all a retribution mafia he gathered to blame minorities.
