Terry Brannigan is a native Westporter. He’s seen plenty of town projects — with varying results.
He’s thrilled with a recent one. Terry writes:
It’s time to give credit where credit is due.
The new sidewalks all over town are amazing. They’ve come out beautifully. They’re built to last.

Equally amazing is that the company leaves the place as clean as a whistle when they’re done
We should give them the right of first refusal on any work in this town they can accommodate!
Terry’s right. The sidewalks are wide, good looking, and much needed. They seem to have been installed efficiently, quickly, and with little disruption. Congrats to all involved!

Liz Heyer, many years ago was the first one to push for sidewalks as a safety measure in Westport, so her children could be picked safely by bus on a main road. She is now on the Bd of Finance. Lets give credit to her fight for sidewalks. Janet Albert
What’s the name of the company who did them?
I asked Public Works – have not heard back.
A couple of different companies did the sidewalks thru out town
I think because of bidding and staffing to get them done
Thank you to everyone who worked on the north ave sidewalks. I was amazed when we moved to Westport that there was no bus service for us in high school given the danger of trying to use the sidewalk on north Ave. Well done all!
I’m pretty sure one of the reasons the Westport Woman’s Club came into existence was to raise money for sidewalks. Boy, do I ever wish we had them up her in God’s Country (Coleytown). Would be so nice to be able to walk/ride a bike to town without worrying about Merritt ramp traffic, or traffic in general.
I moved into my house with Imperial Avenue as my backyard in 2016, right after they completed the sidewalk (and the presence of the sidewalk was a factor I looked at when buying). There are hundreds of people that use that sidewalk every day and it’s amazing to be able to walk to downtown, the Levitt and the Farmer’s Market without fearing for your life. Thank you!
Any chance doing South Compo Rd?
G. Pic Construction and Natale concrete did such an amazing job. They worked everyday in all forms of weather and were patient and courteous to all drivers, walkers, and neighbors who came out to thank them…even those who complained and told them how to do their job.
The prep work alone was arduous and intense.
This was a state funded project in the works for years.
Thank you 🇺🇸
how did the state get that money ? was there any contribution from the fed gov ?
It was obtained through the state Department of Transportation’s Community Connectivity program.
In total, we are set to receive $473,000. Town will end up paying $165,351. The RTM voted on this in June of 2023. It took longer because we had to meet their requirements of obtainment, spec, design, and needs.
