It’s been a hot week.
Today through Friday should be a tad bit cooler.
But then the temperature creeps up again — to the mid-90s, by Monday and Tuesday.
Many of us spend much of the day inside. If we’re outside — to swim, hang at the beach, walk, bike, garden, whatever — we take care not to overdo it. We drink plenty of water.
We duck back inside when we can.
Some people don’t have those options.
They mow our lawns. They put new roofs on our homes. They pave our roads. They deliver our mail and packages.
They make our lives easier — though theirs are hard.

If you’re someone who sweats through summer, so that we don’t have to: Thank you.
You are our Unsung Hero — this week, this month, every year.
We raise our water bottles to you. Drink as much as you can.

Thanks, Dan. So thoughtful of you to honor all those heroes, known to us or not, who labor everyday in the heat to improve every aspect of our Town and our lives.
The list goes on and on —
Construction tradesmen: carpenters, electricians, plumbers, painters, laborers; delivery truckers bringing lumber, concrete & building supplies, piping, bricks, stone, etc. etc. etc. Public works and highway workers raking steaming tar in the hot sun in 90 degree weather. Maintenance crews mowing lawns, weeding, blowing debris into piles (hopefully with battery powered equipment), linemen, utility workers and street cleaners. Mail carriers, delivery people from UPS, Amazon and more, haulers of trash, pool water and fuel.
Legions of workers who likely double our Town’s population count 5 or 6 days a week. It takes a village to improve and maintain a village.
Let’s take a minute when we drive by today’s Unsung Heroes, to smile, nod, wave to or salute to show our appreciation for their sweating on our behalf.
Gloria, Amazing comment on an amazing posting by Dan!
I’d like to thank the kind woman at the WPD office that I spoke with yesterday. In the middle of the scorching hot day,I spotted a small barking dog in a car, windows all shut. She patiently asked for the Model- it was a Tesla – and if it was running. I didn’t know , so she suggested I peek inside at the dashboard. The screen said “my owner will be here soon- the ac is on and it’s 70 degrees in here, so I’m ok!’ Crisis averted-Phew!
Though I would far rather walk or hitch hike than go any where near a Tesla, the fact that the “car” can display such a sign IS impressive.
