Thank you Lyn….. I was just mentioning to my son today, how comforted I feel whenever I drive by Carvel….. it looks exactly the same as it did many years ago……….when we first moved to town – the building, the sign, all of it.
The only thing different is that the huge ice cream cone on the roof is gone.
Lynn, you captured it perfectly! We lived dangerously within walking distance of that Carvel for 20 years! Last minute “Carvel Express” became one of our favorite activities!
Ah, 60 or 70 years, Dan. And for me, the Diner has always been there, too. I mean, ALWAYS.
Funny how a few years ago there were like six self-serve frozen yogurt places that had sprung up all over Westport, now they are all gone but Carvel is still going strong.
I wonder if anyone remembers in the mid 80’s the radio commercials for Carvel which were spoken by Tom Carvel himself in his gruff but folksy delivery. Some people made fun of him but Tom was serious and genuine. And also started a trend of executives voicing their own ads.
Good, stylish photograph here.
Many, many great memories of Sunday afternoon ice cream cones with family and then later. Ice cream sundaes with girlfriends on Saturday nights. An iconic location!
I worked at Carvel throughout high school! I worked with Jim and Martha Squires! It was a fun high school job and a great first job!
Jimmy used to make a milkshake for my husband, chocolate/ peanut butter, which he named a “Jimmy’s special!” that’s all I had to ask for when I’d pick one up on my way home!
I miss both! my husband and those “Jimmy’s specials!” Thank you, Jimmy, for the smiles for all those years!!
