Less than 80 hours after a truck with 8,500 gallons of fuel burned an I-95 overpass in Norwalk, the span has been demolished — and the vital highway is back in operation.
The southbound lanes reopened just after 10 a.m. today.
Traffic flowed on the northbound lanes shortly after 7 p.m. yesterday.
Demolition, paving and restriping was completed a full day earlier than expected.

Workers put the finishing touches on the southbound lanes (left).

I am so grateful to the caring and amazing people who handled this situation with such professionalism and integrity. Thanks to everyone who helped. And I am so grateful to be living in a blue state led by supportive leaders.
Truly superb effort, teamwork and collaboration by different teams to get life back to normal. We are also so grateful that there were no injuries on account of this horrific accident
What an outstanding job! KUDOS all around.
kudos to the DOT for a remarkable effort!!!!
Amazing what can be completed when it becomes a non-political item and of great public convenience.
Enormous thanks and congratulations are due ! All those involved in this operation should be applauded for this excellence.
I nominate all who were involved in this Herculean task as hero of the week! A heartfelt thanks to all.
God Bless the DOT and Governor Lamont for leading the charge.
Bravo to the Union men and women who did the job like the professionals they are.
I just drove through that section this morning and if the burned cement structures were not there, you would not know that anything happened. The live feed of the work being done was really fascinating! I wonder if the insurance company of the driver of the car that caused the accident will have to pay all of the costs related to the accident from start to completely finishing the new bridge?
