Roundup: Jim Naughton, Donald Trump, Birdhouse Reunion …

His wife’s death from pancreatic cancer in 2013 galvanized Tony Award-winning actor Jim Naughton into action.

He’s spent the past decade advocating for a statewide Aid In Dying law.

On Tuesday he brought his passion — and powerful persuasive powers — to the Westport Rotary Club. The longtime Weston resident discussed the importance of the bill, its history and future.

He noted that although 75% of Connecticut residents support this “death with dignity” legislation, its proponents have not been able to get it out of committee for a vote.

Photographs are not allowed during the trial of Donald Trump — at least, not during the actual action.

But a few photographers have been allowed in before the proceedings begin. This one — published around the world — was taken by Staples High School graduate Spencer Platt:

It’s not the first time Platt has shot a Trump-related image.

In 2022 he was one of 5 Getty Images photographers who earned a Pulitzer Prize in Breaking News Photography, for their coverage of the January 6 assault on the US Capitol. (Hat tip: Richard Seclow)

For well over a decade, Project Return ran one of the most intriguing fundraisers anywhere.

Local artists created one-of-a-kind birdhouses. They were auctioned off, at a gala event.

Everyone had fun admiring — and bidding on — the unique structures. It raised much-needed money, for supportive housing.

I’m sure the birds loved it too.

Some of the men and women who created those birdhouses — and their collectors — got together for a reunion last night.

They mingled and reminisced.

And showed off their still-working, still beautiful birdhouses.

Here’s a small sampling:

Westport PAL is collecting used sports equipment. It will be used on their Memorial Day float, and donated to organizations in need.

Equipment can be dropped off any time in the lobby of Police headquarters on Jesup Road. Pickups can also be scheduled; call Emma Rojas at 203-571-7505.

There’s been another Tesla Cybertruck sighting in town.

Saryn Koche and her son saw it parked behind Don Memo.

This one had a dog inside.

Every April, Bob Weingarten takes a photo of his window frame. It’s an annual reminder of Westport’s springtime beauty.

And a perfect image for today’s “Westport … Naturally” feature.

And finally … Happy Ford Mustang Day! Sixty years ago today — on April 17, 1964 — the iconic automobile was introduced to the world.

It is currently the longest-produced Ford car nameplate.

  1. Wow, he’s awake.

  2. I want to find out if Stormy spanked Trump with a paddle, or with her hand! Hopefully she used a paddle because Trump has horrendous body odor.

  3. Lee Iacoca had an enormous success with the Mustang, That first Mustang was called the “64 and a half” because of its introduction months after (or before) the usual autumn debut of the new designs from Detroit. They were sporty cars, much smaller than usual and they had a slight resemblance to the very popular Buick Riviera. Cars got even smaller over the years, and in the 1990’s, when a friend brought his late 60’s/early 70’s Mustang to our driveway, we were amazed at how enormous the trunk space was on what we thought of as a small car when it first came out. I think the early cars were rushed through the production line. We had a ’65 Mustang and I remember that in bright sunlight, red showed through the black dashboard. My husband, Ed, still enjoys driving his blue 2006 Mustang convertible, in nice weather only.

  4. That is the ugliest car I’ve ever seen – I mean, it’s uglier than an AMC Pacer.

  5. The cycertruck is ugly but is reallly good on gas and will be activated for full self driving soon– faster than a Porche and can power your home or construction site.

Dan, I’m surprised that you got the information on the Birdhouse reunion wrong. The Birdhouse Auction was put on for 21 years by Project Return, a home for teenage girls, who for various reasons were unable to live in their family home.

  7. Brandon Osterhout

Momma Osterhout and Mrs. Brezovec made the photo reel! What a great fundraiser!

I love the song Mustang Sally. After I was no longer an au pair in Westport, but still visiting quite often and sometimes stayed there for vacations, I had a platonic friend, he had a Mustang which he let me drive, I think it was a 1968 or 69, not sure.
Years ago when living in the San Francisco Bay Area and as a member of The Scandinavian Club, we had a midsommer party, (a Swedish tradition) we had a band, and at some point when the were on break or had finished playing, some of members that were musical got up on stage, started to play guitar and sang “Mustang Sally”, so the song bring back memories of a good time.

  9. why didn’t Mellania accompany her loving husband hand in hand to court ?

    • She’s not some Tammy Wynette.

    • Richard, If Melania sat in court and “stood by her man,” she would then be listening to Karen McDougald who had a nine month affair with Trump when Baron was three months old. She would then have to listen to Stormy who spanked her husband naked. I have a feeling she has better things to do like shopping.

    • David J. Loffredo

      She’s no Hillary.

  10. Tesla Will Recall Cybertruck in Latest Setback

A federal auto safety agency said the accelerator pedal on the pickup truck, sales of which began in late 2023, could become stuck, increasing the risk of accidents.
