This is all that remains of “Gloria,” the late Alan Sterling’s oyster boat. It’s beached at Gray’s Creek. Pam Docters took this photo …

… and this one: the final time she saw “Gloria,” abandoned yet proud.

Though I’ve been reluctant to suggest the owner of “Gloria’s” remnants get them the hell out of public view, his lack of action at his own volition, allows me to suggest he remove the sad and depressing skeleton immediately.
Dan, You’ve abs gone above and beyond to honour Gloria when few others would; and then there’s that guy who incl Gloria in a song. As far as Saint Andrew = Patron Saint of Fishermen is concerned you’re a good soul 😉
Does anyone own “Gloria”? It belonged to Alan Sterling, who was a good friend of mine for several years, when I was an au pair in Westport, we stayed in touch even after I moved to NYC, eventually we lost touch. He was a great friend and a great guy.
Alan and Gloria. He named the boat for her. They both are gone and what remains of the small vessel also is on its way. Its present condition is a form of elegy. Have some kindness for the memories it holds. May our local landmark Gloria go on her way at her own pace.
