Roundup: Hostage Flyers, Earthplace Calendar, Cam Manna …

Shortly after October 7, flyers with photos of Israeli hostages held by Hamas were posted on the Ruth Steinkraus Cohen Bridge downtown.

Yesterday, they were scattered on the sidewalk.

The action was deliberate, with cuts where they were hung.

Cam Manna is headed to the Super Bowl.

The Ithaca College junior sports media major earned a spot at the Las Vegas media row.

He was a 3-time John Drury National High School Radio Award winner (best play-by-play, sports talk and news feature) at Staples High School) for his work at WWPT-FM, while at Staples High School.

Manna was selected to work the first-ever ESPN Sports Kidcast. He covers a variety of sports for Ithaca and Cornell University, and recently won 2 College Broadcaster Inc. awards.

He is active too with the Ithaca Youth Bureau, coaching after-school football, basketball and baseball, and assists with arts and crafts and homework at a local elementary school.

Congratulations, Cam. “06880” is following your career with interest and pride.

Check out our new header (image at the top of the home page, on our website). JD Dworkow captured the shot yesterday. It’s a keeper!

Sunny skies returned recently.

And so did this serene “Westport … Naturally” scene, at Gray’s Creek.

And finally … today is National Thank a Mailman Day.

Kind of weird that it comes on the one day a week when the mail is not delivered, right? I’m just sayin’ …

Another Staples grad is also going to the Super Bowl. Casey Dohme is a Staples graduate and son of bill dohme former resident Builder supreme. Casey now, as many know, owns two busy local restaurants one in South Norwalk ( blind rhino )and one in Blackrock. He and his crew will be at the Super Bowl tailgate party, featured usually in the pregame show, in a Barbecue contest, where he has won in past years at the Super Bowl contest , Good luck Casey .

How can someone be such a hater? To have something against the hostages! I tried to post a photo of all the children being held if they are still alive but was unable to. Don’t we have a camera on the bridge yet? The Wilton police just caught someone who did a similar thing in Wilton with a permitted by the town blue ribbon display representing the hostages and they are being charged.

  4. This a deplorable act of antisemitism. The poster in the foreground is Omer Neutra, a 22 year old from Long Island whose parents were “so moved that we in the US also feel the pain in their hearts,” when they learned I displayed his poster on the Saugatuck Bridge. Only three weeks ago my client and his cousin sent me the digital file which I had FedEx laminate w/heavy duty zip ties to affix it…to keep it up in heavy wind! Not to prevent a vandal from cutting it down! I’ll restore it to its place today!! #WeStandWithIsrael

  5. I wonder if the organizations distributing signs and ribbons include advice on appropriate places for them. Are we allowed (legally or ethically) to affix posters, signs, ribbons, etc., to the property of others, or on town or state property such as this state-owned bridge, or on utility poles owned by the utility companies? Or are these appropriate only on our own property, or of others who give permission? Does it depend on the type of message (advertising, political candidate, advocacy)?

the message and concern takes precedent over the local zoning. I think the signs were approved. if not so what ?

  6. 2024: Easter Egg Hunt @ Earthplace: 2 sessions limited to 25 children per session at $25 a child !!!
1953 and for maybe 60 years more: Greens Farms Volunteer Fire Dept (Mike & John Gudzik, Bill Vornkahl, Ed Hayes, Stan Wyslick, Mike Ferris, multiple Duffys, George Slingo, Nate Gibbons and many more) ran a “come one come all” no fee Egg Hunt for hordes at Greens Farms School and later at Long Lots.
