Lynn Flint was intrigued by these Frostbiters, seen today in their “Morning After” race from Cedar Point Yacht Club on Saugatuck Shores.
She was also interested in this collection of shells, in the foreground. “They are not typical of our beaches,” she notes.

Those are conch shells and I live in Key West “the conch republic”, legend has it if you bring them into your home, the sea will come and take them back, maybe someone got superstitious of climate change
Official name of the race every New Year’s Day is “Hangover Bowl”. Cedar Point yacht club has been running the regatta for 41 years in Lasers, one of the longest running new years regattas in the US.
I don’t think that the shells are from New England at all. New England shells are Whelks. Some Whelks are eaten by Hardy souls but none look like Conchs. Some of those are typical of Florida and south. I am not an expert but I think someone was finding a new home for their shell collection.
