Learned to sail at Longshore in the mid-Sixties on Bluebirds and Aquacats (small catamarans). Being teenagers on the cats, we’d cherish going out on small craft warning days, when there’d be the maximum opportunity for a knockdown. Big, wet fun! Took swimming classes, row boating, then graduated to the Bluebirds and the faster cats, followed by two summers of racing techniques. Many years later, after winning regattas on Lake Michigan and on the SF Bay on larger keel boats, I’m now racing C-Scows and sailing my Beneteau First on a beautiful inland lake near Kansas City. Longshore was a fabulous sailing education for a kid, even back then. It stood me well.
