Great Westport Soup Contest: Mmm Mmm Good!

If you thought the Westport Weston Chamber of Commerce’s Best Pizza and Best Burger contests were great, you’ll really enjoy this year’s menu.

It’s guaranteed to be super.

Well, at any rate, “souper.”

March is “Westport Soup Month,” the Chamber says. First Selectman Jim Marpe makes it official on Monday (March 2, 12:30 p.m., Mystic Market).

All month long, 19 soup-making restaurants and markets will compete in 7 categories. Westporters can visit the venues (see below), then vote for

  • Best Chicken Soup
  • Best Beef Soup
  • Best Vegetable Soup
  • Best Asian Soup
  • Best Onion Soup
  • Best Matzoh Ball Soup
  • Best Chowder.

The contest runs March 1 to March 31. Voting can be done online (click here). All voters are entered into a drawing, to win free soup from one of the victors.

Winners will be announced in April.

Here’s wishing the Chamber — and all participants — many soupy sales.

Participating restaurants:

  • Arezzo
  • Bankside Farms Kitchen & Bar (Westport Inn)
  • Calise Food Market
  • Chez 180
  • Dunville’s

  1. I have a friend from Northampton who comes to Westport for Gold’s Matzoh Ball Soup.

  2. Am I the only one who caught the Soupy Sales comment? I’m feeling very old.

Not to worry,Eva, I, too, noticed same comment! 🙂 – (‘Soupy Sales’ 🙂
being of a certain vintage ,early 1960’s..many times, laughing on the floor watching
    his tv shows..:-)

The best soup in Westport (or pretty much anywhere) is at the Organic Market!

  5. Yes, I noticed the Soupy Sales reference too. And, believe it or not, Soupy is tied into Westport rock history: he hosted the April 1966 “Hullabaloo” TV show in which The Remains performed. Soupy did the intro right before The Remains started rocking out on “Diddy Wah Diddy.” It’s well worth seeing—but, of course, I’m biased.

As for matzoh ball soup: Gold’s.

  6. For Great Soup in a hurry it’s a tie between Gold’s Deli & Calise Food Market!
If you look for atmosphere than it’s “Tavern on Main! 💞😉

  7. Umm sounds cool love soups. Will be there

  8. What – no Organic Market on the list..?
    That is an inexcusable oversight.

  9. All of Gold’s soup are amazing but the matzoh ball soup is out of this world!

  10. Calise’s chicken pot pie soup is delish! (as are all the rest!)
