THE OLD CHURCH LANERS WOULDN’T BELIEVE IT -HARRY SHERWOOD, THE AMERICAN RED CROSS, CHARLIE SPEAR A ONE TIME LOCAL JUDGE, ANNABEL LEWIS
BEN GUNN AND TENANTS, DICK LEONARD (WSPT ED ASSOCIATION), CLARENCE “MIKE” VOGT A RENOWNED INVENTOR, EVERETT FREY, A CHIROPRACTOR; A TYPEWRITER REPAIR SHOP . . AND SO ON. AT THIS JUNCTURE I WONDER IF I’M ALONE IN THESE MEMORIES.
Caryl – I remember all of them but you left one out Dr.Jarvis DDS. I bought my first car from him a 1962 Volvo 544 in 1966.
Carl and Jay, I remember them all. Dr. Jarvis was my first dentist and a neighbor of my grandmother’s. In addition I remember a toy store that was wonderful. At the moment I can’t remember the name. Thanks for the memories.
JAY – EM JARVIS AND DAVID BECK OCCUPIED THE LITTLE BLDG FACING ELM STREET. I THINK EM MAY HAVE BEEN A TENANT AT 35 CHURCH LANE ALONG WITH LAIDLAW DENTAL LAB . .
MARY – YOU ARE CORRECT ABOUT THE TOY STORE. AS A MATTER OF FACT ANNABELLE LEWIS MADE DOLLS THAT SHE SOLD THERE
Thanks Carl. When I re read your original response and “saw” Annabelle Lewis I thought to my self…… That was the name of the Toy Store owner. wonderful place!! I date back to 1940 Westport . Those were the good old days!
Mary & Caryl-I’m wondering if the unique toy store you mention here is the same one I’m remembering-‘Carousel’ Toy Store? (it was a two-story gray building in ‘Sherwood Square’ in the 1960’s. (I think it later burned down?)
My sister & I loved going to ‘Carousel’ store Saturday mornings while our mother got her
hair done at ‘Karen & Frank’s’ beauty parlor’,same area, there, in the 1960’s..:-)
