Exactly 1 week ago, the William “Doc” Skurlick Saugatuck River Trout Management Area sign was our featured Photo Challenge:
Now that top part of the sign is history.
It was demolished in Friday’s nor’easter.
The good news: The rest of the Ford Road site is fine.

Sad to see.. caught a lot of nice trout near here when I grew up in the “40’s and 50″s .. it was a nice tribute I hope it will be rebuilt.
Ditto to the comment above. We never fished there but would walk there from our Calumet road home and wade in the water and listen to my dad tell us the history of the area and how he used to drive his car across the river there when he was a teenager. Beautiful spot with lots of history and memories.
If anyone is interested in helping restore this, kindly let me know as I am heading up the effort on behalf of Nutmeg Chapter, Trout Unlimited.
It would be best to coordinate our efforts.
Additionally hands would be welcome in cleaning up the area surrounding the granite bench nearby, dedicated in memory to Wm. and Meta Beach, who were pillars of the Chapter in the earlier days of its approx 40 year history of working to restoring and preserving cold water fisheries in the area.

Is it on Ford Rd?
Yes, as noted in the final sentence of the story.
