All summer long, kids swarm on the Compo cannons.
On a crisp fall day, there’s no one in sight.
But there they stand, reminding us all of the ideals our forefathers fought for, nearly 250 years ago.
Today, let’s think of them — and all the values we as Americans hold dear.
Happy Thanksgiving!

Well said! Thanks Dan and happy holidays everyone.
The cannons are like a time machine. I stand by them and it’s 1958 again.

Happy Thanksgiving Dan to you and your family. I love the Cannons and have thought a great deal lately about those that fought to make our country what it is. Our founding Fathers knew what they were doing when they crafted the FIRST Amendment. It is first for good reasons and those that enjoy your blog often exercise their right to free speech. May free speech always be available to us all. May we always be able to share opposing ideas.
Thanksgiving is meant to celebrate the harvest, which is taken for granted, not political ideals.
Well said.

Hi Dan, Hope you had a nice Thanksgiving. Think I may have told you that we usually go across the lake (Ponchetrain -sp?) to Charles’ sister’s house for holidays. She raises and trains horses – so a large farm. Always fun going there – lots of good food and family. Today I need to go for a long walk!! We are having a warmer fall than usual, which is fine with me – since I love warm weather!! Can’t go to pool today as YMCA is closed – take day after T also . This wouldn’t “fly” in WP – I’m sure!!The south is still “loving” and sticking to alot of the original things that started our country –quite interesting – think I told you the Y is also closed onSundaysAnother thing that would cause a “commotion” in WP!! Sandy
