The 36th annual “Capit0l Fourth” celebration — a star-studded outdoor concert at the US Capitol, attended by tens of thousands and broadcast nationally by PBS — kicked off tonight with a stirring version of the national anthem.
The star who sang it? Westport’s own Alisan Porter — better known now as the most recent champion on “The Voice.”
She was followed by Smokey Robinson. Then Alisan returned, for a rousing rendition of “America the Beautiful.” She was accompanied by the Ministers of Music, and a gorgeous video tribute to America’s national parks — this year celebrating their 100th anniversary.
Alisan sounded great. Maybe next year she’ll do it again — this time at our Compo Beach fireworks?

No links?
It’s on right now, but I don’t think Alisan is performing again: http://www.pbs.org/a-capitol-fourth/home/
Maybe can find it on UTube later?
Would be cool to also hear what Smokey Robinson sang. I saw him on an episode of Darryl’s House (the Hall and Oat’s “Darryl” – his somewhat recent show on cable), and Smokey was still amazing!
Unfortunately, Smokey lost a few miles off his fastball tonight. Not his best performance. PS: They announced at the end of the show that it would be repeated immediately afterward on “many PBS stations.” Check your local listings.
Okay, might try to find it. Thanks Dan!

You can back up to the parts you want to see.
Got it, watching it.
Thanks!
Is Allison porter davina porters daughter?
Who is Alisan Porter?
I guess you missed the 2nd sentence in the 2nd paragraph: “Westport’s own Alisan Porter — better known now as the most recent champion on ‘The Voice.’
If you enter her name in the search bar on “06880,” you’ll see several articles about her journey through the competition this season. There are other stories about her day job: co-founder of the great website Lil’ Mamas.
Didn’t miss the second sentence…I guess I should have said “why” instead of “who”….or “what” is The Voice….dates me I guess 🙂
There is this thing called Google. Try it sometime. http://www.nbc.com/the-voice
I helped market one of its early predecessors. Nothing new under the sun.
“GOD BLESS Alison…stand beside her, and guide her…”
At least the singing was real….
