Wednesday’s “06880” post about Bo Diddley‘s appearances in Westport sent Mike James scrambling for his scrapbook.
Sure enough, there it was: a ticket to one of the rock ‘n’ roll pioneer’s local shows. With an actual autograph from the star. (He apparently called himself “The Man.”)
St. Anthony’s Hall was on Franklin Street (you can read all about that history here.)
Meanwhile, Michael Friedman — the Staples grad who inspired that “06880” story — e-mailed me a few of the many photos he’s taken over his long musical career.

Interesting that your St. Anthony post from one year ago yesterday (as referenced above) ended with a comment submitted by another Westporter who saw Bo Diddley at St. Anthony’s Hall in the 50’s.

St Anthony’s Hall was the place for parties, showers and small weddings . My sister and I took ballet lessons there. I was in a small production of the Nutcracker. Great memories!

I appeared with Bo Didley in a photograph on the front page of the Town Crier newspaper in 1959 or 1960. Bo played at a “Fandango” dance at Longshore…. I also got an autograph signed “Best always. Bo Diddley” The Town Crier copy was lost years ago but I still have his aurograph…..
