Thunder boomed. Rain splattered.
And — standing in Toquet Hall — Valerie Smith Malin captured the dramatic scene, just a few minutes ago:
And Valerie’s son, Brandon Malin, captured this timelapse — also from Toquet — as the storm clouds rolled in.
Today is April 1. But this is no April Fool’s joke:
There’s a chance of snow on Monday and Tuesday.
Funny. We all had to evacuate from the YMCA swimming pool because of the threat of a lightning strike. Apparently this did not happen at the “Old Wspt Y “.
I thought there was a roof over the Y.
Ha Ha. There is but for some reason the new one “is not grounded” ??
Well a little exciting , as the life guard kept blowing the whistle. Nice to be protected like that.
Ah yes, that clock below the “Patagonia” sign on the brick building. Back in the day (1970’ish) that clock was my reference, my meter, my “I have time to spare”, my “I don’t have time to spare” to get my young ass home before my dad’s (lenient in retrospect) 10:30pm curfew …
Reminds one of those old-fashioned, hand-coloured picture postcards from the turn of the century (19th). where every light in the hotel was lit up, the sky was dark and the gigantic full moon was about 1/4-mile away.
I didn’t think I was a weather geek but I just watched that time lapse of the storm clouds 3 times.
A bolt of lightning landed with a huge bomb-like explosion in our front yard at around 7:30 PM. It was the scariest thing I had ever heard. The explosion was deafening. We had 4 people at our house and I was grateful that we were all indoors. They had just arrived about 5 minutes before lightning struck.
What an amazing photograph!
Oh my – this was Westport Bank and Trust -50 years ago – no? (Brick bldg to the right – actually I haven’t been to Westport in 54 years, so everything is new! )
Yes, exactly. WB&T went through some changes, becoming Lafayette and then something else. Patagonia’s been in there for about 10 years. They’ve done a very good job of keeping faithful to the old building, while repurposing it to sell clothes.
Interesting re having to get out of the pool – know you have to do this if swimming in an out door pool – never heard of it before re indoor pool
Wonder ?? Was someone trying “to cut corners” with money?? However, nice to know, as Christine mentioned, that swimmers are protected by alert lifeguards!
amazing
