Yanni Delivers

On Christmas Eve in 2008, Westporter Tina Crosby had a small leak in her newly painted kitchen.

Within an hour, Yanni Papakosmas of Father & Son Plumbing in Wilton — I’m not sure if he’s the father or son — sent someone over. He solved the problem temporarily. The next day — Christmas — the job was done.

Over the years Tina hired him for other work, and referred him to friends. “He is honest, very knowledgeable, and does excellent work,” she says.

In the current freeze, plumbers have all the work they can handle. But today — his day off — Yanni showed up again, when Tina called.

It took only 10 minutes to fix the problem. Tina reached for her wallet.

“No charge!” Yanni said.

His business card reads: “Small enough to care. Big enough to deliver!”

And classy enough to rate a shout-out on “06880.”

  1. I just had a similar situation with a pipe in our carriage house. You know, old structure, old plumbing, old everything. Frozen pipe: who do you call? I have 2 or 3 great electricians -that’s for another story- but really, no plumber that I can depend upon…so I went online and called this one, then called that one – “too busy – sorry,” then I called “Mr. Rooter.”

Mr. Rooter came, fixed the problem, warned me against another issue due to a draft-situation in the trap, whatever, and before I could get THAT under control…Bam! Another freezing nite and the same pipe freezes again…it’s not like I wash’t warned. Time just wasn’t on my side…

So, again, I go to the list I’d made yesterday and called the first one, the second one, both no answer. I called Mr. Rooter and there he was. I explained my dilemma. They came out. No charge. It wasn’t THEIR fault, but my gosh, there they were, in the snow: putting us back in business and doing so as a courtesy to me AND to Mother Nature. Bless them.

It’s always nice to hear good stories about service vendors. And since he was Greek I passed it on to my Greek daughter-in-law and son. Opa to Yanni.
