Well, as official as something like this can be.
This evening, First Selectman Jim Marpe lit the Christmas tree at Town Hall. Then hundreds of Westporters trooped around the corner to Christ & Holy Trinity Episcopal Church.
There — in one of Westport’s newest traditions — the Orphenians sang. A band played. Soup, chili, pizza and wine were served. Nearly 2 dozen non-profits handed out flyers and candy.
And, of course, Santa Claus came to town.
The holiday season may be here, but on Main St. if the law firm did not decorate their tree with a range of colorful lights, we would have not have any. In stead, there is the same cheap, lackluster Christmas setting that Town Hall and Main Street had last year: a tree with with a string of white lights …Well, what could illuminate the Christmas spirit better? Is Main Street going to have Santa walk beneath that same cold, isolating string of white, thread-bare lighting as last year? Have a heart!
I doubt that “Bedford Falls” will end up as “Pottersville”
Does anyone rememberr Capt. Howard Burling a/k/a Santa Claus of the Westport PD parachuting and landing at Compo?
