The weather was perfect. The food was great. The crowd of over 100 was diverse: old and young, artists and bankers, 4th-generation Westporters and a woman who moved here 2 months ago.
Strangers made new friends. Folks on both sides of the political aisle laughed. Everyone marveled at the sunset.
It was just another “06880” day at the beach.

Rick Eason is a rising freshman at Staples. His drone flew over the “06880” party, and captured part of the happy crowd.
Rick Eason — a rising freshman at Staples — brought his drone to the party. The crowd got bigger later (when the light faded), but here’s a unique view of South Beach and the rest of Compo. Thanks, Rick!
(Special thanks to Mary Hoffman and Jennifer Hershey for helping organize the party; Audrey Hertzel for the cupcakes, and Kibberia restaurant for the food!)
James (Mapes) and I had a wonderful time…saw old friends and made new ones. Gratefully, Susan Susan Granger SSG Syndicate 124 Cross Highway Westport, CT 06880 website: _www.susangranger.com_ (http://www.susangranger.com/) phone: 203-227-0080 cell phone: 203-451-2691
Why don’t you schedule next years party on a non P&Z night? I ‘m sorry I missed it.
Great party Dan! Have to get on my soapbox for a moment – every car you see in the aerial shots has lost its parking spot under the new proposed Compo Beach Plan
Cheers!
Sweet. Wish our trip east coincided with one of these gatherings. Those trees in the sunset picture with the benches are just quintessential Compo Beach as I remember it. What kind of trees are they?
Ailanthus altissima (tree-of-heaven) I believe.
That sounds just about right. Thank you.
Wish I could have stopped by (perhaps via an Uber car!) but the Thursday night timing interfered with my P&Z commitment. Looks like I missed another fun gathering of the 06880 blog crowd!
Dan
So sorry I missed the event but had to be at Town Hall last night. Congratulations on what looked like a great celebration and thank you so much for the wonderful open forum you provide for our Town.
Dan: Much fun — so glad we could make it! I love meeting new Westport people. The pictures are great — especially the drone one, the cupcakes (which were delicious) and the sunset of course was spectacular in your honor!
Was perfect – thanks Dan!
Things like this are what make our little town beach great. Please don’t turn Compo Beach into Sherwood Island park.
Looks like a great evening – so sorry I missed it (those cupcakes are making my mouth water!). I was at Town Hall, too. Another time!
Dan, looks like it was a wonderful party. Sorry I couldn’t be there.
As my wife Susan Granger already said, we had a great time. And, what a beautiful evening. And, I finally got to meet you Dan.
