Westport Delicatessen — the deli and caterer located diagonally across the street from Super Stop & Shop — closed abruptly today.
Its website says:
It has been 23 wonderful years here at Westport Delicatessen and Caterers.
We are sorry to say we had no choice but to close today January 10, 2014.
Please forgive us for the sudden notice, it was a shock to us also.
Times are tough, we tried to hang on here however we just couldn’t anymore,
We want to thank our faithful staff, our product suppliers, most of all our wonderful customers, without you we would have never made it 23 years.
It was a blessing to serve you all and have so many of you take this journey with us.
We will leave you with one final “word of the day”
For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. — Jeremiah 29:11
Wish you all well. May you stay happy, healthy, always let your light shine and may God bless you always.
John and Linda.
Remember: God is good and His mercy endures forever.
I’m sorry to see any small business close down. Good luck in the future!
Jack Backiel, great to see a name of one who remembers old Westport as I do. John & Linda I enjoyed many lunches over the years, good luck.
Tell me it’s not true. Where and who is going to make me chicken salad. This is wrong. You have always been the best. Thanks. Stephen EFFIES SALON.

Hope Gold’s is safe
A good family business that put out a good product at fair prices. With almost every gas station abandoning their service for food sales it puts even greater pressure on small food businesses such as Westport delicatessen.
I wish them the best in the future.
