Coffee An’ Class

Alert “06880” reader Dan Donovan writes:

Every Sunday morning I go to the Merritt Superette to pick up the Sunday paper, and get a doughnut from Coffee An’ for my dad.

This past Sunday, as I was leaving, the owner of Coffee An’ came out to my car. He apologized for overcharging me, and handed me $2.

I never would have known.

But he gained a customer for life.

Thats exactly how they are there: good food, great donuts and a honest people taking care of you. They let you know that you are important to them and go out of their way to take care of their customers.

It’s the same next door at the Izzo’s Cross Roads Hardware, except they don’t have donuts.

Ah for the days of a town filled with local merchants.

Best muffin in town!!!!!!!!!! When I am NOT in training. That whole stretch of stores are run by nice people.

Similar experience at the Dunkin’ Donuts near Mitchell’s last weekend – soeone bought a coffee and donut, paid with a $20 and left the change. Richard and Julio noticed right away and sent Noe out who chased the departing car across the parking lot to return (successfully!) the customer’s money. I believe this kind of behavior happens a lot – but perhaps not so frequently spoken of – and at all sorts of stores. Local merchants, in this case, are joined by our local employees.

  5. Human error, 2 dollars. Human integrity, PRICELESS.

They would have gained a customer for life, but then again I already am a customer for life. As for Dan D., that’s exactly where I last ran into him – at Coffee an’ on a Sunday morning. Love this Town and the people who make it great!

I agree with Grant. Just this week, at the closest Staples (over the line in Norwalk), “Linda” tried to run out with one bag I’d forgotten.

And, Dan, hope you’ll give your dad a hug for me with that weekly donut. He’s so special. And this was a great story.
