The tributes have begun for beloved Staples English teacher Gerry Kuroghlian.
Near the end of tonight’s Orphenians concert, Alice Lipson — director of the elite choral group — dedicated a song to the retiring instructor. She thanked him for his unwavering support of the arts throughout his 42-year career.
The song: The Beatles’ poignant “In My Life.”
Gerry: We know we’ll never lose affection. In our life, there is no one compares with you.

Thanks for teaching me, then later my children, thanks for being a friend
When students enthusiastically ask their parents if they met Dr. K. during Staples’ back to school nights, you know that the kids and their teacher have connected. That was my experience with Dr. K. and I am quite sure that I am not alone. Great teachers may not stay in Westport forever but their influence lasts a lifetime. Thanks you, Dr. K.
Dr. K taught me in 9th and 11th grade. He inspired discussions and analysis of books we read in class and books I read on my own that I still bring up in regular conversation today. He was a wonderful teacher and inspiring man. I wish him well in his retirement and hope that he continues to be well and do well.
